I just got one, I am not liking it for some reason. The specs seem to be well but compared to the RS ten meter rig I am replacing with it, I like the little RS a bit better.

I don't get why you cb'ers want to be like us ham guys, with the frequency counter and all of the other crap you really can't use. Like I said before, get a good older radio, have it tuned right (even have mark or some other world famous cb tech do it) and then use that.

OH and I've got one that may be rare, discovered it when I got a box of cb's for $10. Buried in the box at the bottom was a cobra 26 XLR. I never seen one before and I don't even have it listed in my cobra catalog of radios. Anyone know anything about it? It is an 858 chassis that I've also never seen.

You are correct, it is complete junk as it came from the factory. Perhaps we could do some horse-trading. I'd be more than happy to trade you some stuff for it.

I can't tell you if anybody else here wants to be like a ham, but I bought my little export for the extra power that is unavailable on a bone-stock US-sold radio. The frequency counter becomes important because at a glance I can be assured that Im still on 11 meters and havent inadvertently switched over to 10 meters. You could argue that i have created my own problem by buying "extra channels", but without them I have limited the power I can enjoy right out of the box. Heck I have extra channels on my TV I never use but they came with the package

I'm probably about the furthest thing from wanting to be a ham. I generally run a single frequency and don't deviate from that frequency. I prefer to use garbage equipment that's been re-engineered to perform like more expensive equipment. I enjoy being mistaken for a base station.
I enjoy being mistaken for using expensive equipment. I enjoy being told it sounds like I'm sitting in a recording studio talking on a Neumann u-87 .
The reaction I get from people when I tell them the cheap junkie equipment that I'm using is priceless. It's a great conversation starter and when people tell me they had the exact same radio and they hated the performance of it, it gives me an excuse to tell them they need to find a better technician.
