Close enough. Roadpro aka DASmike5511 Thanks this. -
Got a 5.5 and it still looks good, epoxy not cracking yet.
Have a 5 foot Firestick II in the side box. Used that before.
The Wilson 2000 seems to work for a friend, 2 of them cophased. His in dash radio works better, and mine does, too, with a Firestick II on factory mounts.
Guys with the newest trucks aren't using a CB radio.bored silly and rabbiporkchop Thank this. -
my observation with it at 2 different shops when they couldn't even come close to a decent swr reading on a crapcadia.. meaning
. steel antennas predator monkey made Brownings ..... they would stick a Francis on the truck because with 18ft. of coax they are still considered pre-set antennas.. and when they still got a 1:6----1:8 swr reading they figured out that certain crapcadias have a very bad very poor ground issue ........... -
Steel copper or aluminum it doesn't matter when it comes to resonance. You never want to blame the antenna for the installers inability to troubleshoot a problem. Another thing you might not be taking into consideration is the configuration of the antennas that were installed on a vehicle. Comparing a bottom load Predator antenna 28 top loaded fiberglass antenna and then having better luck with the aluminum trying to say that the aluminum is better isn't really looking at the bigger picture.
Kind of like someone who fight fails to find The Sweet Spot in a narrow banded antenna and then he tries a white banded antenna and then without any effort achieves a low SWR trying to say that antenna is a better antenna doesn't really make it so. Just because it's easier for a clueless person to Achieve a relatively decent match doesn't make it necessarily more efficient.
Quite often the most efficient antennas are the ones that are the most difficult to set up correctly -
well these were cases of basically no luck getting any antenna of any kind that were tuneable on the truck. Moe in weatherford tx. Robert at clays in San Antonio steel rods--- 440 in Baxter tn. and certain other shops set and tune antennas all day long. the shop will have a bench tech. and a antenna man. and a whole lot of them stay very very busy all day long during their business hours 5 to 6 days a week.........it's the way it is out here on the road. and some of the antennas and equipment they deal with is ridiculous... a lot of people are on a budget thanks to the wifeeLast edited: Dec 2, 2016

I've always thought firestiks were good antennas.... just my opinion though......

I have a 7 footer that broke off at the base of the ferrule at the top of the threads.
No sign of failure where the fiberglass was joined to the ferrule.bored silly and rabbiporkchop Thank this. -
First off have you had any work done to your radio. What kind of radio is it. If you have it peaked and tuned that will help the receive and you can also ask them to put in the receive upgrade. Look for a good shop and do your homework. There are plenty of clip n snip artists out there that don't have a freaking clue what you even do to turn a radio on. If your swrs are that way right now it seems like depending on if you have a antenna that has adjustment you can get closer to 1.1 but you are well within a acceptable range for operating your radio with no worries of damage to the drivers. A big antenna probably wouldn't be the greatest idea cause of the weight. Stock mounts will get loose and you may loose a antenna that cost upwards of 100 after you get it tuned. Also it might end up going through a car windshield.
Old saying IF AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can skip and get people all across the country off a fiberglass stick. Only need or want a bigger stick if you want to dip into the 10m 2m 6m 440 bands or others. Get your radio worked up and then see what happens.

N nooooo....Spend your time and money on a killer antenna setup...A poor basic radio will out talk a big radio on a crap set up..
mike5511 and rabbiporkchop Thank this.
