I am not the picture of perfect health, but I know I am healthy enough to drive.
I always knew that you had to take a medical exam for the DOT to get your license and get hired. It's a pretty tough exam for someone who is not in good shape, but fair enough, they don't want you to croak while you are driving...
Then I read that a lot of the carriers that take new drivers also have their own DOT physical you have to take... ok, fair enough... If I passed the first DOT exam, the second one shouldn't be too hard to pass...
Then I read that some of the carriers make you take a physical agility test to make sure you have enough stamina to do the job.... OK, I get it, you have to be fit enough to do the job...
Lately, I found out that during orientation, some carriers are making you sign a medical release for your regular doctor, giving them access to your entire medical file and history. Is this true? Has anyone had this happen during their orientation?
If so, that seems like a huge invasion of privacy. Its one thing to examine me to see if I can do the job now, but it's going to far in my opinion to go through my life's medical history to dig stuff up. I am not going to lie on my DOT exams or applications, but I also don't think they should be able to go digging through your life history either.
Have you had this happen to you? Am I freaking out about nothing?
Also, if you are going through orientation and they give you the boot because of something in your medical history, will that go on your DAC?

Aside from a physical every two years for my med card I haven't ever been to a doctor. They aren't going to find much in my history.
MosquitoBandito Thanks this. -
Any company that requires a physical agility test is a #### company that you should avoid like the plague.
I've never heard of a company asking for a general medical release to access all of a driver's medical history.pattyj and MosquitoBandito Thank this. -
They have no right to your medical records...
If a company ever asked me that, my response would be "I've never been to a doc before".drvrtech77, MosquitoBandito and RollingRecaps Thank this. -
When I went to prime we had to sign a paper for their doctor to release our medical files to them . but it was only so they could see the full results of our physical.

Watkins Shepard, my first company, required us to take that Physical Agility Test. There was some skinny black chick that was with us in our orientation group and she couldn't pass it and they sent her home. My current company didn't make is take that test though.MosquitoBandito Thanks this.
