I don't feel very good about this Alaska Run. I will follow this thread. Frankly I want to encourage you to take every precaution possible. You also want to carry flatbed straps and chain so you can wrap one of your drive axles and use it as a ship's capstan to drive yourself out of the drift you ran into and got stuck in. Little tricks like that will do well.

Fairbanks just completed a -60 record cold. All of that cold is now entering or has entered the USA west of the Mississppi. - 60 is cold enough to kill children under 14 in 20 minutes just by breathing it. And enough to hurt adults who are not protected well and eventually kill them by pure chilling to frozen in a short time. It also breaks steel. SNAP! Just like glass.

Though I did do a trip to Valleyview, AB once in the dead of winter, I don't think I'd have the cajones to try it all the way to AK.

But I do enjoy these threads where truck drivers get eaten by bears.

My uncle drives up every year from ohio to go gold mining.. hes up in Pogo mines now working..

Just becareful I have never did it but heard horror storys from him and my g-pa who made trip alot in pickups with goose necks... My favorite one was when my grandpa took his rv and trailer... there was a moose in the middle of alaska highway ( I hear just a 2 lane stone road in some parts) and moose wouldn't move...

so he began to get closer and nudge moose with the rv.... The moose didn't like it and ramed the front of the rv with his rack... his rack went clear through the RVs radaitor and lost all his coolant right there in middle of no where...

Long story short. You can be prepared for everything... and it still won't be enough.. Theres gonna be something weird u weren't thinking of. GL though. I am jealous I wont lie.. I will make the trip before I die.

You don't get it... the OP is going to be entombed in ice for centuries! He needs to run away now... while he still can!

I wouldn't do a solo run for under $25k in th summer. And that would be with a paid ferry and cabin. It's a nice ferry ride.
