Yeah, but what about reverse? That heavy unless you have a low gear in the rear, than reverse in a rtoo sucks.
Plus, i think it was said that it was a downgrade because an RTOO is not as STRONG as a RTLO 18913. An if its not already, then eventually it will get noisey as hell. Thats another downgrade. If you break down a long way from home and end up in a shop somewhere, good luck finding one, thats another downgrade.

With the 13oo that was in this truck when i bought it reverse would have been a clutch a year trying to back up loaded trains. At 100k+ lifting off in the lowest hole i had you heard every huck bolt in it beg for mercy. Deep Reduction in the 15od cured both of those problems nicely.snowman_w900 Thanks this.

I think the reasons the "experts" deemed it a downgrade was because of the torque rating. I like 8LL's and 15's too.For the first 8 years l drove thats all l drove mostly. But when l bought my 2000 Pete they wouldn't warranty it with the 15spd. It had to be an 18 with a CAT. I still think a 15 or 8 shifts nicer under load in the bottom gears. But being able to split the top gear is a lot nicer especially over the 8. I pull the same kind of weight as you and l rarely split in the bottom mostly just the top two.

Right. I wasnt sure what tranny you ended up. I to cleaify, i personally consider the RTOO a downgrade from a RTLO.
I agree, a 15 speed with a deep hole is a better choice than a RTOO 13 forsure. Godd luck. -

The only change i made is it was built with the fine spline output shaft. same as the one in a high-torque 8LL. The rest is straight up 14915od. My Cat LOVES this ratio set. .7mpg better than the 13. I just cant outrun pickups anymore

I have 3:36 rears with a RTO15715, I do pretty well against a pickup. I have a 18918b in the floor I'm thinking the high hole in it will be just right to be wrong. To low in in direct to high in overdrive, with this gear set. Before everyone says I'm wrong keep in mind I run a B model mechanical engine. Lugging it is begging for disaster. They like to run between 1400 and 1700. With 3:70's the 18 would be perfect but that's a lot of dough swapping it all.
RTLO18918 final ratio's .87 in direct .73 in OD
RTO15715 .79
Sometimes you have to look at the entire picture however the low hole in the B ratio is way lower than the 15 in deep which I would like to haveBoxCarKidd Thanks this. -
I'll trade you my 3.70's for your 3.36's @wore out
