I'm going to school for Crst in Iowa. Need advice and info.

    Okay. First this isn't the first option that came to me it's the one I chose lol. Also, I am very aware that people don't stick it out. Trucking is something I want to do. CRST doesn't require you to drive very long for them to pay back the schooling. Maybe the pay is crap, maybe you have to team, maybe some people don't think the company is that great, but I chose this and it's what I want to do. I can work for them and then move on to something better. It's a means to an end. CRST is not a lifetime commitment it's almost a year lol. I have to start somewhere, so why not there. Thanks for the advice though.

    Everything has it's pros and cons. I usually try to take them as they come and handle them when I have to, rather that worry about things that haven't even happened yet.

    Oh Sweetie, if you only knew. With most people, you might just get on each other's nerves from time-to-time, at the most, but there's some sick, disgusting people out there too. I was in a truck with a guy that did something while I was driving, that a dog wouldn't have done in the truck, not if given a choice. He had a choice too. I would have driven 200 miles out of route!! He had a choice. I'm scarred for life.

    CRST does not have a great reputation
    Have tried other training companies ?
    Our resident trucking encyclopedia @Chinatown may be able to offer some better options

    I have applied to others but some require you to get permit first and physical. Honestly this is the only company that i applied to that i didnt have to pay something up front to get into. Thanks though.

    It never occurred to you there is a reason they are willing to pay the full cost of training you? Could the reason be they have a hard time keeping drivers on?

    It is like $45 for your test and permit in GA and you can pick up a medical card for less then $80. I don't see that rooming with another stranger, low miles, or crappy equipment is worth that price.

    The fact that they offer to pay more upfront is only because they offer so much less as a job. They can't keep drivers. The best of the megas have 100% turnover. That is within one year, before their schooling is paid for, most are out the door.

    But it looks like you made up your mind. Look forward to your post in the bad company section in a couple of months.

    You can get into a few companies without paying up front
    Prime is one
    Hopefully @Chinatown can give you a few leads
    Have read previously that Females have the hardest time getting situated with a trainer, not many Female trainers around

    The biggest part of driving, is learning how to manage your time, they can't teach this. The thought of teaming makes my skin crawl, but I did it for 4 weeks. I knew after that 4 weeks I would be free. Pay attention to safety all the time, so many things can happen around trucks. Keep your head and eyes moving, and always thinking what if...

    Driving is still a noble profession, without us the world literally stops. You will make sacrifices, and only you can determine if it is worth it.
