Regret buying a Volvo with Volvo D12 motor

I have two 2007 Volvo D12 units, the first one (2007 VNL 670 750k miles) has an EGR valve issue and I think I will have to replace the EGR valves and the cooler in one shot. Is there anything else I can do to prevent this major expense. Also, does this model have the injector harness issue you mentioned?

My other unit a 2007 VNL 780 with 950k miles with an automatic Eaton Ultrashift transmission is having the injector and transmission issues.. For the injector, they shop told us the #5 injector was bad and we changed it ($1400) out. Will i have to replace all the injectors one by one now? We have not replaced the EGR valves or cooler since we had the truck 3 yrs or better, at least not to my knowledge. We leased the truck to another O/O for a while.

For the transmission issue, took it to the shop 3 times, haven't fixed the problem yet. The issue is in 10 gear, , won't drop back into a lower gear when climbing hills when loaded. Sometimes we can try to manual shift it down but sometimes it won't let us. Once it starts dropping out of 10th to 9th, it happens multiple times.

Took it to Advantage in NC, just outside of Fayetteville, they said it was a speed sensor, they changed it and 500 miles later the samething started happpening again. Seems to only happen when we are loaded with more than 3 cars (I'm a car hauler) which is usually just over 50k total weight.

I am wandering whether I should get rid of them both now or not. If so, what should I replace them with if we use the specs of the VNL 780. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well I like my D12. I've had it since 559k and now has 703k. Not without problems but all have been age related, like gaskets etc..and the dreaded egr twins. I purchased a USED truck so things will go wrong and or fail. FYI, new ones no matter the manufacture are just as much of a gamble. I get my repairs done at a Volvo dealer because everything comes with a one year parts and labor warranty, honored nationwide. To me that's worth an extra penny or two. I am polite to the service staff and don't give them attitude, this always results in getting good service and a price deal. They will stick it to the big companies but are much more flexible towards O/O if you play your cards right.

My mpg is good, 7 to 8 and once got 9. It does tank significantly if the load weighs more than 33k, so I take stuff below that.

I have had both Volvo and Cummins in a Volvo. Got towed twice with the cummins and never with the volvo.

you are correct about USX and maintenance. That is why USX no longer has Volvos. Volvo would not allow warranty claims due to lack of preventative maintenance by USX.

I have a D12 1999 has 2,900,000 miles never been overhauled ever I run it all over with maxing out at 1900 rpms for 10 hours straight with out lifting my foot it is so reliable so I don't know what ya'll talking about yes its a slug on heavy loads and steep mountains unless I keep it at 80mph uphill then no one can keep with me and iam in the hammering passing everyone never see them again I have a Volvo with a N14 in it sitting at home in the back yard starting problem takes forever to start my tranny in this volvo vnl D12 has a clutch and it's automatic cha.ge gears with my fingers or I could drop a stick in it Love my truck and I don't let anyone touch my trucks I give them a lifetime warranty I doo the Job right the first time and I have a egr delete by the way by by EGR.. straight pipes and I removed my exhaust brake let her breath if I put penta d12 injectors in her and bigger Turbo and run some software I will bring her up to 775 HP thinking about it. Iam gonna overhaul soon this that is alot of miles 2mil900k Volvo all the way!!!!!!!
