For decades, Freightliner has always fixed the dash or trailer brake valve to release slowly to prevent drivers from just using the trailer brakes and not the foot valve. (I suppose to prevent wearing the trailer brakes out) I have always heard there is a restriction in the brake air dump line that facilitates this. Is this true and where is this restriction fitting located?? Can it be removed?

Only fools who run too cheap want to use the spike .. do you know that by not using all the brakes intermittently that the shoes get a glaze like coating on them driving through the spray they use for de icing and the brakes are pretty weak in a hard panic situation stop.. I used to never use the brakes at all if possible until the mechanic explained why my brake shoes got glazed.. now I use them a bit more to keep the shoes clean

    Yup
And my mechanic told me if I shut my truck off and coast as much as possible I would see a substantial increase in fuel mileage.....

the hand brake valve has 2 ports. one is for air supply. the tube from second port goes to the rear of sleeper. there is valve right there under slipper. see it

that restriction must be inside of it.

can you pm me the vin so I can check in the air schematics for that specific truck and see what you may be talking about? That doesn't sound true but I am intrigued now.

I wont comment on how to use brakes on a truck there are far to many OPINIONS on the matter to make everyone happy. I will say there is a majority of mechanics out there that are a few clowns short of a circus.

    spyder7723 Thanks this.

I don't like the newer freightliner trucks trailer brake not immediately releasing. I also don't like it on the dash. And the handle has a return spring, I don't like. My classic had it on the steering column and it would immediately release. It also didn't have a return spring so I could grab a little trailer brake and downshift and run the clutch. Was nice to have options like that.

Also scares me I can't gently give a little trailer brake if my trailer jack knifes a bit then immediately release once straight. Newer trucks seem to be headed in the wrong direction in some ways and better in others.

I also wish the Jake brakes switch were right on the shifter. Even all three exhaust brake modes on one triple rocker switch would be nice. Like off, then full, then keep clicking for mode two and one. So you could Jake brake and shift quicker. But the guys that design the trucks probably won't read this....

One more gripe is my exhaust brake switch is on the steering wheel. A nice feature, but it's on the right side of steering wheel and cruise is on left. This seems backwards to me with shifting.

I agree with you on the exhaust/engine brake existing on the shifter. I cant speak to the cascadia's but with a lot of trucks you can run wires and a switch to control the exhaust/engine brake on the shifter if you wanted.
