Cracked mentors front bumper. HELP!!!!!

Try not to fret too much over it. Swift is in the business of employing inexperienced truck drivers, and these things happen. Always have, always will. Freightliner? Freightliner has worked hard to keep these sorts of repairs as inexpensive and quick as possible. Hopefully you didn't get into the hood fiberglass, then things change a bit.

 

If the guy were 185 hrs into his 240 hr training.... There comes a point where you have to be left to stand on your own, and to take the hit for your F-ups.
On the other hand, if he were 30 hrs deep into the training.... The trainer should be shotgun; there should be 200% focus in that cab.....

But we don't know that status, TtT. It's a variable.

 

I'm having trouble picturing this. Tight right turn and you hit a guard rail with the passenger side? At first glance I thought you didn't turn quite in time and caught the drivers side.

 

My trainer cracked his own bumper. He had to be incident free for a few years to be a trainer. He actually trained and he didn't ask but I let him know it's his business not mine.

 

They learn the new drivers what to do when they become a trainer. in 6 months.
Just seems like a scam to have team drivers on the cheap.
OP and for all. I read the trucking articles with the scenario of an accident. Is it preventable or not. I gather that most the people that diagnose this stuff don't really drive for a living.
All accidents are preventable, just park the truck.
Next time you are in a stressful situation, wake your mentor. THAT is the reason for both of you in the truck. For him to MENTOR you, not sleep while you are driving.
I know, I know that is not the way Swift and the other companies what it to be. Like I said earlier, It is just a way to have a cheap team operation. Mentoring means be awake and watching and teaching.

I was a trainer for Central Refrigerated for a little over a year before I moved on to better and bigger things. Although OP you should have followed G.O.A.L, your trainer should have been in the cab with you regardless if you were running as a team or not. SWIFT and Central were sister companies when I was there, however I think they have since been bought out by swift completely. I do know that there training policies were very similar. Any time a student is pulling onto a yard, delivery, shipper, ect your trainer/mentor is to be in the passenger seat. I learned very quickly as a trainer that you only run on a few hours sleep at a time Part of the job and sounds like your "Mentor" needs to get back with a trainer himself.

 

You're absolutely right with everything you stated in this post. In this day and age, nobody helps each other out in sticky situations anymore. Sad to say.

 

Maybe you should re read the post before you start ranting about this new generation. The main problem is you old timers always ranting and complaining about the new generation, how about help and stop complaining

 

Its likely Swift will put it on your DAC but it's really not that big of a deal in this case.You'll be fine just be extra careful when going into tight places.Sometimes you may have to run over a curb to avoid hitting objects while making a turn.Chicago is full of tight turns.
