Anywhere I can find info that is pertinent to car hauling?

I guess I'm trying to figure out how many straps is legal? I see guys use different amounts of straps/chains on regular basis.

Just trying to figure out what is allowed.

    TIA.

Search securement on FMCSA. 2 is legal, manufacturers require 4.

Just a heads up, there is a lot more to even straps than most guys realize, are you using over the tire straps, winch down straps, lassos, four point tie down, two ratchets, single ratchet?

Not tying to be a smart ###, but between straps pulling the same direction, to strapping through the wheel to using a lasso strap and having the O-ring about a foot from the tire, there are a bunch of people out there hauling vehicles that don't have a clue, and unlike you, won't ask!

Heck I thought you could throw straps over the units and winch them down like flatbed freight

You have to have one on the front axle and one on the rear axle. So one chain front or one chain rear pulling in opposite directions. Or, a strap on a front wheel and a strap on a rear wheel. Two is all that is required. I just got a warning for having just the rear wheels strapped on a tail car along with a ticket for being 3200 pounds overweight on the trailer.

For me it's four point tie down because I require it.
I just can't get there in my head and wouldn't feel right doing it any other way.

100% agree! If you 4 strap or 4 chain you can ride with a piece of mind without having any worry. Worst case 1 strap or 1 chain comes loose you still have 3 holding it in place! 2 and one drops or comes loose = a bad outcome!
