    Good point.

How are you supposed to get the best effect from your engine brake with the transmission trying to upshift all the time?

No thank you. I'll stick to old reliable as long as I can.

I would just use manual mode.
Drop it to M and select the desired gear.
My Volvo will hold any gear you wish.

Automatic does not mean mindless. :D

I would add some smart remark here but others might take it as something more than just poking a friend and we don't wish to escalate the debate... :p ... plus you can just delete me too... and I would not want that... LOL

Well, that's certainly a load off my mind for when the day comes where I get dropped into one of these 579 Petes we're buying...

Well, I do consider it something of a badge of honor that I've been in my truck for 10 years and I'm only on my 2nd clutch, while everything else on the lot of a similar age is on its 4th or 5th cluth.

We had one now fired idiot last year have a new clutch put in his, and wore it out in 32,000 miles.

Manual mode on my freightliner has been disabled, but if the engine brake is on,the transmission won't up shift. Still have to be careful as it will downshift if you use a higher level of engine brake and that could cause issues on slippery roads.

If the engine brake is off, not only will it shift into 12th gear, it will also engage eco-roll which means you are now essentially descending in neutral. Pretty scary the first time I drove the truck in the mountains.

    By Whom? Your company?

*Explodes and rants... that is BS, anyone who disables anything in a big truck is setting up for a problem. How stupid are they?

We also have new trucks, they disabled the manual mode, can't be stuck in a gear I wanted to drive. it will always go back to 10th regardless of the uphill and heavy weight.

That makes you a tool working against a truck that is set up to work against you.

Manuals do not shift straight to 10th come on now...

Have you thought about changing companies and making sure the one you want to run for do not do these stupid moves with the configuration?
