i live in Chattanooga Tn and wondering if anyone on here could have some positive advice. I have a choice between 2 local companies which are holland and foodliner. Both for local driving positions. I have read good and bad things about both. Which would you choose? Thanks

If Holland is P&D, then I would choose Foodliner.
You do know what P&D is, right? -
It depends on what you think is bad. Just remember that for every one person complaining, there is more who like the work or the company and you never hear from them. I would apply to both, see what they offer and make a decision from there.

Thanks for the replies. Holland, have to works dock and load and unload and drive. At foodliner, there are not many reviews to read but. I have not heard anything good about holland, I thought they were suppose to be one of the best. Foodliner hauls sugar in bulk tanks and did talk to one driver and he spoke very highly of them

Just curious I thought retirement started at 20 years

I am medically retired sir. Don't come on my thread and start something like that.
Bud A. Thanks this. -
Tanker work has a minimum of physical unloading, you have to move hoses, connections and physically babysit the trailer monitoring pressures, heat etc to do everything right. It's a higher form of trucking and a better form for someone who may have medical issues that might prevent physical lumping of loads several times a day.
When I first started unloading and loading 48,000 pounds twice a day plus a overnight driving 600 miles or whatever it is to get somewhere to deliver and work in that trailer half a day moving freight by hand is common. When you are young and have no medical issues like I have now past 50, it's limitless and not a problem.
You are looking at potentially a great deal of physical work for little financial gain in the industry. If you are medically retired on a nice percentage from the VA then that wil supplement your income nicely. My spouse was a Marine Sgt until her knees failed as in physically fell apart one day and years later after surgery she was able to join me on the road but with a limited ability physically. And even more limited now after they removed sections of her spine. It's not worth it anymore for her to continue to pursue CDL work. It will tear her up faster as she ages.
You might want to keep looking, Im sure there is more industry than that in Chattanooga. I purchase weapons parts from a foundry over there online from time to time. They make weapons barrels and so on there in that city. Maybe you can use your Military experience and go that route. Just a idea.
I may have other thoughts for you based on what results from this posting. Everyone is different and offers different strengths and weaknesses to the Industry in general. Not everyone should be part of trucking for a variety of reasons. But I have not yet found anything about you that says you should not drive. But you should not be inside van trailers moving boxes from pallet to floor or big pallets to small pallets.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
