With a new driver it takes an average of 6 months to learn proper shifting to obtain good mpg...an automatic it eliminates that 6 months, they see mpg...fuel savings right away. That's one reason mega's are switching out to auto's. .

I always hear the mpg reason for automatics but the truth is they gear the trucks differently with automatics. When I'm loaded heavy i shift the truck manually because the auto wants to shift way to early. The autos are geared higher for a lower rpm at highway speed but power suffers because of it. All their videos say it has the same power at lower rpms but that is bunch of bull. I could get the same mpg out of a manual 10 speed geared the same way.

Millis related question, although rather off topic; how do you current Millis drivers like the "super-single" tires? Especially now that winter has come.

I've never used duals, so I can't really compare them. I've driven two winters so far with them, and they've never been a problem for me. Now, since Millis has a no-chains policy, they are really big on making sure you shut down the truck if you feel unsafe to drive in any particular kind of bad weather - in the last week we've basically had a message every day saying "the snow is possibly getting bad, let your dispatcher know if you need to stop because of the weather" and going on and on about not driving if you don't feel safe to do so. I've only had to shut down the truck twice because of weather, myself.

Reading these threads and watching a couple of YouTube video's, Millis really does seem to be a company that look's out for it's driver's.

I've been here a bit over a year. First trucking job but did a lot of research deciding where to go before picking Millis. Do not really have any complaints. I still pick the brains of other more expereinced drivers. People who have worked for other OTR companies said Millis is tje best they've ever experienced .

I've seen his video's along with a former driver there Steven, he is now an owner op...those video's are one of the reason's I started to look more closely at Millis, plus the fact I'm not too far from a terminal. They've seemed to be happy there, and looks like the company takes care of their drivers as well as the equipment.

As a company to start out with they are fantastic. Their schooling is great, and the pay and amenities are pretty hard to beat. I made $55,000 from Jan 1 to Dec 1 when I left. Nothing negative to say about them, and only reason I left is I found a job at a company 10min from my house, running regional and able to be home with my 4yr old twins every weekend and usually a night thru the week all while making just a litthe more $ so couldn't pass it up. If something were to change I'd go back to millis in a heartbeat.

My kids are grown so I'm looking at this as a second career so to speak. I know there was a gentleman from the Chicago area that went to Richfield a couple of months ago, forgot his name, haven't really seen any new posts ,was wondering how everything was going for him..
