I just wish these dummy's would use a bulb that is the same brightness as the rest of the lights & isn't as bright as the brake lights. Sometimes it's tough when they're bobtailing to pick out the brake lights.

soo, can someone break it down for why they are called " Chicken Lights "
cause to me, christmas lights sounds a lot cooler.... but that could change once i find out why they are called chicken lights.... -
Because "chicken haulers" are known for adorning their Big trucks and trailers with multiple lights --- and they're well known for high-ballin' those loads --- often in a convoy with other chicken haulers and/or like-minded Big truck truck drivers.
Now-a-daze, the term applies to any driver with more lights than required by the D.O.T.
A compliment for some.
Others may consider it childish and needless.
And in SOME cases, they both just might be right.
Nothing looks much worse than a truck full of chicken lights when many of those lights aren't working because they're burned out
or the connecting wires are broken.
If y'all got 'em, ....... flaunt 'em.
Personally, I appreciate a well lit Big truck.
I'm also WELL aware of the additional costs and maintenance required to keep 'em all lit.
OH!
BTW, .......... "Christmas Lights" are what the police and highway patrol use on top of their cars.
-
I hate "Christmas Lights" them thar is ugly...LOL..LOL..
-
well like i said in my previous post, i do like them, frankly i like them a lot, however, if those guys have more lights then a stadium lite up at night then it becomes " over-kill " or not see nice, but, if they are done just right, then it looks just right....
but wouldnt it be harder to see at night with the bright glare comming off the truck/trailer also?? -
Never bothered me, I sort like the reflection off of a new fallen snow...
-
Having the utilty lights on at night for me would reflect in the mirrors not letting me see behind me so i leave them off till im hooking or unhooking at night.. i even hate the amber lights on the front of the trailers as they reflect in the mirror,, i worked for one place local and i replaced the amber with red on the front of the trailer,, everyone said dot would stop me and make me change them they never did,, cops never botherd me either,, weigh stations never said a word when they seen them.
-
Utility lights face rearward, so I assume the reflection you're seeing in the mirrors is the utility light's light reflecting off the nose of the trailer?Do you mean the marker lights on the top corners of the trailer, and/or the amber running/turn signal light --- about the middle of the trailer?
The reason why I'm asking is, I don't like ANY reflections or distortions in my mirrors either.
My mirrors have to be properly adjusted, --- allowing me to take a quick glance and see things that aren't vibrating or reflecting light in surface scratches in the mirror.
I need to see an accurate picture --- and I can't afford to stare at a mirror, trying to figure out what the hail I'm seein'.
I think mirrors wear out.
I really do!
I've had less than desirable mirrors, but didn't realize how bad they were until I replaced them.
Keep those headlights, lights and mirrors clean, too.
I've seen amber lenses replaced with red lenses, and I guess they look purdy. But the color of a light has a reason and sends a message.
In adverse weather, when visability is reduced --- like heavy fog --- if we saw clear light, I think we'd assume we were seeing headlights.
If we saw amber light, we would assume were seeing the side or front of a vehicle.
Red light indicates were seeing the rear of a vehicle.
Put red in front, and it COULD cause a problem
Oncomming drivers might mistake approaching vehicles as a vehicle being followed.
You're right though, --- the D.O.T., for the most part won't hassle a driver with amber lights replaced with red. But they CAN if they WANT to. Wanting to probably depends on the Big truck truck driver's attitude.
But consider this -----
You change lens color from amber to red in front.
Looks cool.
And the D.O.T. never says a word about it.
No hassles.
Then, you're involved in a crash.
May not have been your fault, and it may have been that someone ran into your Big truck while you were stopped at a traffic light.
There's an investigation to determine who's at fault.
Hmmmmmmmm
Big truck truck driver running the wrong color lights in front.
Technically illegal.
If the auto driver rasises the issue that they THOUGHT the Big truck was goin' the same direction because they saw red lights, instead of amber lights, and got so confused that it caused a head-on crash, ----- see where I'm goin' with this?
ANYthing that's not up to vehicle code, COULD be used against a Big truck truck driver in the event of a mishap.
For that reason, I think it's better to keep amber -- amber and red -- red.
The D.O.T. tells us
ALL ACCIDENTS ARE PREVENTABLE.
That doesn't leave much room for error.
Twue stowy ---
Near my home-20, an airplane pulling a banner, got tangled up in high voltage cables, --- and crashed into a Big truck traveling on the highway.
The Big truck truck driver survived, and had reems of paperwork to fill out after the crash. The driver wasn't from California. But he seems to have been honest.
One of the questions asked how fast the Big truck was traveling just prior to the airplane impacting the Big truck.
To which the driver answered, between 55 --- 60 MPH.
He wasn't real sure because he was lookin' at the airplane comin' in low, and not at the speedometer.
Seems reasonable, ...... right?
NoN-Preventable Accident?
Right?
Not according to the D.O.T. investigation report.
NopE!
Their findings concluded that had the Big truck not been going
60 MPH, (which in California is also speeding. Cal speed limits for Big trucks is 55 MPH.) the Big truck wouldn't have been where the airplane crashed, .......... yet.
Ergo, preventable.
What the report DIDN'T mention is how the Big truck deflected the crashing airplanne AWAY from crashing directly into several 4-wheelers, which would have likely resulted in serious injury, or worse, for them.
There are other equally silly, yet twue stories like that.
Some are fables, but the ones y'all would think sounded SOOO silly, they couldn't possibly be twue, ----- are.
Cruisin' the highway and byways lookin' ever so cool
IS a great feelin'.
But it's one of those cases where y'all oughta be askin' yourselves, Is It Worth The Chance?
Now-a-daze, schiester lawyers have turned their focus from chasin' ambulances to chasin' Big trucks with BIG insurance bucks and deep pockets.
The news media talking heads sensationalize Big truck truck wrecks because it increases their ratings.
But that sure doesn't do much for our image as truck drivers, and J.Q. Public goes postal,
Git them dad-burned dangerous road hog Big trucks the hail off'a
MY highways.
They're ALWAYS in my/the way!
There's NO reason or excuse for Big trucks to be causing heavy traffic and the crashes that result.
They even tear up OUR roads with their heavy, overloaded weight.
The media runs with that --- and comes up with "SPECIAL REPORTS" to inform the general motoring public to watch out for
KILLER TRUCKS --- which actually was what one such "informative" report was titled ---- about 15 years ago.
---- So, ............ the politician's knee-jerk reactions are to propose and pass new SAFETY laws for Big trucks, to protect the 4-wheelers from the Killer Trucks.
Special Interest groups smell money and power, and form groups like M.A.D.D. -- M.A.T.T. -- C.R.A.S.H. and other such groups.
Do their efforts make any difference?
Well, ........ not necessarily for REAL safety improvements, but they're tax-exempt and the directors seem to be making bank on contribution bucks.
And they use their redistributed wealth to influence political candidates running for political offices., to pass more knee-jerk, feel-good, laws, rules and regulations for Big trucks.
All the while ignoring studies that have determined that OVER 75% of the fatal crashes betwixt a car and a Big truck, are the fault of the
CAR'S drivers.
SOME things on a Big truck are there and that way for a reason.
SOME folks aren't aware of those reasons, and
SOME folks wouldn't care if they were aware.
They're bound and determined to do whatever THEY want,
regardless of the potential ramifications.
Think twice before altering thangs on or in a Big truck.
After that, think again.
Then decide.
10-4?

10-4 Aftershock...
haha, man o man did i enjoy reading that, and the sad part is that it is all sooo true... i dont think anyone could say any of that any better.... i couldnt agree anymore, things are done for certian reasons. and yes, just about every accident is our, (truckers), fault, no matter what... and the whole deal about the plane hitting the truck, iv heard that time after time, and no one has really denied its fact.
i do have one question for you Aftershock, how much thought DID u put into all of that?
sounds like you been waiting for someone to post such things.
again, and thanks again, youv got my vote!!
