Fun on I84

I sure dont miss all that ice and snow. One winter of it was enough for me -

I go out in the snow I take the snowblower with me in the back of the old pick up truck and when people see that they go "There's a person who knows what he's doing." LOL!

 

My kid texted me a snow pix from somewhere in Baker County this morning. My response, "Sure is beautiful! It's even MORE beautiful that it is up there, and I am down here!"
I feel I put in my time in ice and snow. People talk about how bad the roads are in the mountains in storms. What they don't realize, is that the mountain areas are where the highway departments concentrate. You want nasty? Take out east of the Rockies on the plains. Now THAT is nasty. When it is snowing sideways, foggy, icy, visibility zero, anyone with any brains finds a hole and crawls into it until the storm passes.
Oh, I forgot to mention temps below zero and then you have the wind chill on top of that.

 

I froze one difficult hour in fueling near Bismarck ND in the night. 50 mph sustained blizzard winds with higher gust and temps reading -54 on my dash. Had to halt or pause fueling every 15 minutes and run inside to get warm on coffee and burgers and run back out to splash another 1/4 tank before freezing again. That engine was howling at 1400 and wife inside cooking dinner. It was crazy that night. But I don't care about all that, I cared about the cold that was intense enough to stick your flesh to metal anywhere on contact.

 

And that is precisely why you should NEVER throw chains. Is it worth your life?

Most dumb####s nowadays can't comprehend the fact that they shouldn't drive 70 mph on that #### while updating their facebook status and snapchatting... "Weeee, look at me!"

 

Roads have not been to bad. I run across cabbage daily now for a dedicated, if 84 looks to shut down ill go up the 95 to Lewiston then over.

I will say there is alot of drivers that are not used to the weather that get freaked out by it, but in all honesty its no worse then normal.

 

84 is clear. For now at least, I just cleared Cabbage heading West.
