I do. I can go three weeks without working, but I'd rather not run it that close. No doubt I'll use some this month, but if I still have a weeks reserve on Jan. 1st, I'll be ok with that. Not happy, but ok. I've got one more year, until 1/5/18, on my lease, then I am gone.

Glad you made it without going in the hole. over the couple of years you've had this lease, what's been the hardest part of being ic? what are you going to do once you own the truck?48Packard Thanks this.

My plan is to leave trucking completely. Too many changes adversely affecting the profession. I'll be 57 next year, been on the road most of the last 20 years, and I'm working on going into business for myself in a field related to what I used to do.
Hardest part of being an IC? Probably dealing with my boss...me!mxpx148 and QuietStorm Thank this. -
Hope it works out for you, but I'm sure the road will start calling you again eventually48Packard Thanks this.

Nope. Left once and came back. I'm not getting any younger, and my motivation isn't what it once was.QuietStorm Thanks this.

In that case want to sell your truck? haha48Packard Thanks this.

Just go online and search how to create a LLC or INC. You can save yourself some $ doing it on your own. After that get your EIN. States vary on the creation of your LLC/INC. For example my state charged $100 but others will charge as much as $500. I paid my truck off using a lease purchase and my next one will be through Schenider since it's a lower down payment that at my current company. Nice thing is you never have to work at Schneider to lease their truck and eventually own in 4 years. Once you learn the board and find the best lanes to run, you will be set but depending on the person, it could take 1-6 months. Also depending on where you live can make a difference also. I've heard of drivers being home every weekend and netting $2k or more.QuietStorm Thanks this.

Iowa is pretty cheap for an llc.hopefully i can do what @sadwar did and take a business loan out after a year and a half.
-
Why get an llc if your a one truck operation you can still get sued if your the driver?
-
If your profits get around 70k and up you can save a bunch on taxes by starting an LLC.poppapump1332 Thanks this.
