Has anyone ever seen evidence of the driver shortage?

I saw evidence of the truck driver shortage while at the fuel pump at the TA in Hillsboro, TX. Truck pulled in next me hauling circus equipment. Twenty nine midgets got out of the cab. Definitely a driver shortage.

Wonder how they feel in a crowded elevator with normal sized people.
There used to be an excellent movie named "The Terror of Tiny Town" and all the actors are midgets. It's a western and they rode shetland ponies. Great movie. Some normal sized idiot filed a lawsuit claiming it offends midgets, even though the midgets didn't agree. The idiot won the lawsuit and put a lot of midget actors out of work. There was going to be a series of those movies, but the lawsuit put an end to that. I was looking forward to more of those movies; Tiny Town was a really good movie.

it's better than some local jobs I've seen at least you get a portion of the line haul. Wouldn't be enough though if you had to do a lot of chaining on I-70.

From what I see every day on the road and hear from my dispatcher - there is a shortage of good drivers. Lots of newbies and drivers who shouldn't have CDL in the first place. Last I saw a guy, who was backing up at truckstop and damaged another truck with his trailer. It was very clear that he wouldtn fit in there, but he did it anyway and damaged the hood and headlight on someones truck.

Unless pay goes up and they start treating drivers better they never will get better drivers. I have a grand total of 2 years behind the wheel of a commercial vehicle and I'll bet I have more experience than the average driver on the road these days.

I agree, everyday chaining would be a game changer on pay for me.

Unfortunately he and many others are quite content with such an abysmally low wage.
