OK well I upgraded. I'm solo now. I've got my first tractor. It's a 2014 freightliner with 387k on the clock and sadly it has a headache rack. I say sadly, because the idea was to take whatever they give me and haul a van or reefer back to Phoenix for phase II securement, and trade it in. Well, that will be more difficult now as I don't have the oh sorry need a headache rack excuse.
Took my key and try to turn it over. Battery dead. Go to the shop to get a jump. 2 hour wait. They come over to jump the tractor and every light on the #### thing comes on. Some disgruntled flatbed guy left everything on. Well, they couldn't jump it. Back to the hotel. Needs to be towed into the shop and the batteries replaced, possibly the alternator. Will see.
Any swifties know when I can start demanding breakdown payment? Lol

Might be one of the trucks I got into, if you find out it goes 64mph. That was mine.
As for breakdown pay, usually it would be processed as layover pay. And if you are dispatched on a load you would be eligable for sure. But the different fleets do this a few different ways.
I didn't even request it, but my DM immediately called me when I was having to do a transload. And wait on the shop. And had it show up on the next pay check to the tune of 500x miles.
Best check with your DM to see what your eligable for, I'm guessing you probably have a temp DM. If you've got a flat DM they have a little extra latitude in getting you more money.
If you want a newer Truck, just make up some reason it's unsafe and the shop needs to fix it. Heck the guy that turned down the truck I'm in said it smelled like Dog. No such thing. -
If you have a flatbed DM they will most likely let you know they are adding it. I'm in a 14 freight shaker manual and my governor kicks on at 66, got a lot of miles but im going to run mine into the ground BC I don't want the newer Swift truck yet!! Fyi I just saw some 17 T680 flatbeds for Swift, and kind of shocked me!

Them mid roof 680s are nice. I'm driving my 15 freightshaker into the ground first as well. No saftey crap and it's a manual.
Last reefer truck before I switched was a 680. What can I say, that truck fit me and it fit me well. By the time this current flat truck gets traded in, I'll probably be ready to move on anyway. -
Up here at the terminal and my old backing instructor and road instructor are both here for winter driving sim recertification. Coolest guys at the academy. Was really cool to see them. The waiting for my batteries to be charged so I signed up.
FerrissWheel and Lepton1 Thank this. -
Really sorry to hear about your trials and tribulations with your POS mentor. When you said you had 127 hours behind the wheel after four weeks that floored me. My average trainee finished 200 hours in 28 days from getting in the truck. Hopefully you have a much better experience going forward.
By the way, that load that got turned down after 30 minutes? ANY load that is offered in the Swift system is automatically rescinded within 30 minutes if you don't respond. If you are away from your truck and get a text message, then immediately call your driver manager and have them accept the load for you.RedRover, TROOPER to TRUCKER and FerrissWheel Thank this. -
