Surge is over? Hmm you might want to let my company know cause I've ran 3592 miles last 8 days and I have 1232 miles left before I'm home for Christmas. That will put my 8 day total at about 4150 miles roughly
When I will be making big money? I'm new to the trucking industry no experience, hope I get hired

You have your own company?[/QUOTE]
Nope I work at a Private trucking school Also got 2 so far today hired.TROOPER to TRUCKER Thanks this. -
So your miles are an indicator of the industry as a whole?
If you pay attention to the industry at all you might have a clue to what I am saying. Most of the new drivers get hired at a mega, and all the megas run a seasonal operation.
Like, I said the megas continue hiring this time of year because it keeps the desk jockeys employed, however freight drops off like a rock and the OP is unlikely to make his $900 take home like he dreams of. -
He's not in the hiring area for Prime tanker.freemouthhere Thanks this.

I'm sure certain freight slows but there are tons of consumables and food people constantly need. My butt doesn't stop sharting on the holidays and i still brush my teeth and need shower supplies and toiletries etc. I also dont take a break from eating on the holidays. I bet freight like toys and furniture type stuff might drop some but then again a lot of people receive cash and gift cards for the holidays so they still spend.freemouthhere Thanks this.

^^ No one said the world ends after Christmas. Trucks are still going to move. But the megas that hire drivers with no experience, have as their primary customers, retail business. When freight drops like a rock for the the retail side, it is doubly worse for the trucking companies that serve them. Those megas then fire workers for safety violations instead of laying them off to avoid unemployment. The trucking market recedes at the same time the labor force unemployed increases.

Your right the larger companies are hiring but also smaller ones are as well. Look all over craigslist they are everywhere. The statistical information we use suggest 68% leave the megas with in 6 months... That being said the ones that stay are obviously making it. It doesnt take much more than 2700 miles with a starting CPM of about .36 to make close to $1000 a week as far as take home that is based on each individual and their tax situation...
Now the single biggest thing that will get you to making 60 to 70 k as a company driver is YOU!!!! if you want to be home once a week or every other week and you are not flexible and you dont drive your clock out and plan ahead you wont make it.
I have a recent student that started with a company that graduated late August and has consistently run 12k plus and is on track for over 13k miles this month. He also got his OTR training done earlier than most. Point is its up to you for most of it... Be hungry..... The nay Sayers are just being lazy.....freemouthhere Thanks this. -
When you bold something online in writing, you are screaming at the top of your lungs, all caps is the same thing.freemouthhere and KillingTime Thank this.

50 cents a mile after training my foot. Maybe for a 30 year experience driver. That's top pay.
If everyone got paid 50 and over in this industry, regardless of experience, the whole nation would be clamoring to drive. -
You shouldn't be fired for safety violations? I don't see why companies would make up crap just to fire people that they spent money on to hire.
