You won't ever make "big" money in trucking unless you build up your experience level, avoid problems (collisions, burning bridges) and like to work hard all day and year long.

    I know
Rarely do smaller companies hire without at least 1 year experience. I know it happens but is indeed rare.

Larger self-assured companies are just about the only ones that hire right out of school. No one else wants to pay the insurance premiums for hire new drivers when their is no shortage of experienced ones.

That is why I am talking primary about megas in this discussion.

I do every day and have been for years. Along with indeed, monster, and the local job source. I am aware of who is hiring and when. I know what I speak of.

And after the 1st of the year is the time they leave the megas. They get fired and those that don't leave because freight drops off like a rock. These 68% then saturate the already lean job market and make it hard for a driver with less then 6 months to compete.

No mega is averaging 2700 miles a week. Most megas average around 1700-2000 miles a week. It is only that high because it spikes heavily during the Christmas seasonal surge. After Christmas the average miles can drop off to 1000 a week.

The average length of haul at a mega is around 400miles a week so do the math.

Secondly .36cpm x 2700miles is $972. Around 10% will have to be taken off immediately for FICA and workers comp, so that is already under the OPs goal before you even take out insurance and taxes.

Nice try at recruiting. Most drivers don't make 60-70k. No new drivers at a mega. As a new driver you are limited in your options.

August is the start of the seasonal surge. Your really just making my point. And here is the other clue, drivers regular lie or brag about the miles they drive. It makes them feel more like a supertrucker and less of a looser.

The successful ones post periodically the whiners and the b&%$#@#%s and all the negative Nancy's post on here whow as me the industry sucks...... Merry Christmas

Well I would appreciate that if you do, but I tend to think from you comments, that is not true.

Not at all; just a realist. I look at all the statistics and numbers and listen to all the BS. When the BS doesn't line up with the facts I say so.

People do it all the time on this forum.

    I stated my reason already.

I have no way of checking his specifics so it is either here nor there. I am just telling a newbie what he can expect especially this time of year.

Your making something out of nothing. There is nothing negative that I am saying. I am just telling those who are interested how the industry works.

A guy new to the industry, would like to enter it this time of year and take home $900 a week. I tell him that is not likely and give the reasons why.

Now this may be new information to you, or you might be diluted with some other misunderstanding of the industry. If so that may be why you are so adversed to what I say.

Here is the fact you obviously haven't considered. Dry van drops like a rock after Christmas. Flatbed doesn't pick up until later spring. Reefer slows down until harvest season next year. Those are the main avenues for new drivers and their paycheck will reflect that until the season changes or they get some experience and get in some more specialized areas of trucking.

I have to support the freighting changes over the Holidays. It's really difficult unless you are somehow with the right freight that does not suffer Holiday Changes.

For us that was McKesson out of Memphis. Million dollar Medicines going to hospitals. People need that all the time. They load trailers faster than we can collect them it seems over the holidays. Money hand over fist.
