Its called paying your dues, that's why the ones of us that have been out here busting our backsides learned all we could and now when we want to relax and enjoy hometime and being with family we can't. The new entitled generation wants it all

 

That might work. My CDL has a Denver address, so I'm not in the tanker area either. The plan is to get a TX or FL CDL soon so I should be set then.

When is the next good time to get hired ?

 

Starting pay for a new cdl holder at Prime is 46cpm plus the weekly fuel bonus on average of 3cpm. that's 49cpm for a newb with no experience. Yes it is done on a regular basis at Prime. After your first full year there, your health benefits are cut in half and you'l receive a 1cpm raise on top of whatever anual raises they do in general.

You are welcome to believe that you can't make money as a new driver until you put in 2 years someplace, but that myth is so false, it's not even funny anymore.

Yes the 46 cpm I am talking about is being in a lightweight tractor which most new drivers are assigned to begin with. Lets see at 2700 miles a week at that's $1,242 plus the average fuel bonus of 3cpm is another $81. That would bring his weekly gross to $1,323. Perdiem is 10 cpm at Prime with no stupid administrative cost that other megas like to tack on, so that puts $270 that won't be taxed for the week leaving his taxable amount $1,053. Now there are benefits that need to come out pre-tax of about $120 leaving his pre-tax amount now at $933. Assuming a tax rate of 25% which is high as hello, that puts his take home at $699.75. Oh wait, don't forget to add back in the perdiem of $270. So that puts his take home at $969.75. Yes he should be able to reach his take home number pretty easily, especially if he adjusts his W4 correctly and with 4 kids and a wife I would assume his tax rate to be more like 15%. That would give him a take home of around $1063.05.

That is for a new driver with no experience at Prime!

 

Not sure what world you live in, but the mega I worked at went back to normal freight volumes after the "Holiday Surge". I make a lot during the holiday surge, but that's just gravy for the end of the year. The rest of the year my pay was very consistant.

Maybe you need to find yourself a different mega if you believe they fire all the bad drivers after the first and that they slow down to nothing for freight. Maybe you were one of those bad drivers?
