Just Bought a 99 Pete 379 logging truck with Cat 3406e and trying to figure out what this canister/reservoir/filter thingy is....the hoses are disconnected and its bone dry inside so I can't tell what it was originally used for but I'm sure it had a good purpose..I'm finding a bunch of abandoned parts on this poor truck the previous owner neglected her bad so I've been busy nursing this thing back to health..this is my first truck so forgive me for not knowing what it is..learning as I go..thanks![]()

It may be a engine oil bypass filter. Follow any hoses that are still connected to it & it may give you a clue as to what it is.
-
That's where you put the blinker fluid.
-
It looks like a henway

known as a spinner II oil filter. i have used one for many miles. very good filter, can extend oil change intervals with it after you get a base line oil sample and oil sample thru the extention period. can save you a good bit of money.
DougA Thanks this. -
I had a centrifuge on my truck many years ago.Got it free, won it in a contest. They work well, truly amazing the amount of dirt they will extract from the oil. Some engines use a centrifuge as their primary filter.Old technology, but we've become a spin-on throwaway world anymore, time is money. You actually have to clean these, that's why no one wants them. But man, they work!
