There are several good threads. Use the sear function to search Maverick.

From what I understand SE Missouri is good area for home time and freight.

I am also looking into Maverick and preparing to begin CDL school. What is the best division for a newbie like me with regards to glass or flatbed? I am looking to stay out at least two weeks at a time but would be happier with three weeks. Just want to make an informed decision.
-
If you plan to stay out at least two weeks, then the glass division might be a good fit for you. You must stay out two weeks, but you can stay out longer if it suits you. You will make more money (CPM) in that division, and your securement and tarping must be done indoors because the glass can't be exposed to the elements. However, you must have a passport and be willing to go to Canada if you do glass.
-
Passport is good and I don't mind Canada. I have spent a ton of time there over the years. My only concern is losing time and $$$ due to tarp and securement times. But I guess like everything you get better and faster with time
-
Generally speaking, you will do fewer loads with glass than in the flatbed division. Obviously, that equates to fewer tarps. Also, most of the glass loads are pre-loads so you just have to inspect the securement and finish lacing up the tarp. On the OTR glass division you will occasionally get a live-load, but that is not the norm.

Thanks for the info....any other knowledge for someone just starting out

If you do decide to go with Maverick, just pay attention to what they tell you in orientation, show up on time (or early) for everything, and be respectful. In my opinion, they have a good program. I don't feel like they have lied to me at any point. They seem to shoot straight.
The first few weeks/months will be the toughest, no matter who you go with. I wanted to quit more times than I can remember. However, it gets easier with time. Just pay attention to what is going on around you and keep your long-term goals in mind. I will also say this, there is no shame in deciding that this isn't for you after you put some time in. Many people diss on those who don't last, but the reality is that OTR trucking is a lifestyle. You don't know what you don't know, and the only way to find out what it is like is to come and do it. (I say all of this as one who is still very much learning every day. Many of the veterans on here have already forgotten more about trucking than I have learned.) Good luck!Doogie144 Thanks this. -
