Okay here is my problem..... I bought the Garmin Dezl 570 and am trying to update the maps on this thing using my laptop. I have a newer laptop but has a small HD, I do have USB ports as well as a MicroSD slot. When I try and update the maps it tells me that I do not have enough HD space available. I have a external HD with 900GB free and I bought a 16GB SD card for the Garmin, and even after changing the locations to download the files it still gives me the same stupid message that I don't have enough space available. I don't see why I need to download the files to my computer If I have enough memory storage in the GPS itself. Any suggestions other than buying another laptop with a bigger internal HD?
Garmin Dezl 570 update?

Hmmm. Interesting problem. Will have to ponder this a while.
Might try looking at this http://www.poi-factory.com/node/39231 I'm not too keen on all these steps and don't even know if the optional method will even work. But it's about all you can try other then getting access to someone else's larger computer and high speed unlimited internet.
I've always thought it would be neat for select truck stops to have "Map Update Kiosks" for speedy updates of popular trucker GPS devices for a nominal fee.Last edited: Dec 23, 2016
tinytim Thanks this. -
But FWIW, don't expect the MAP updates to provide much if anything new that you'll ever realize. But can you at least do the small device firmware (software) updates? These are all I'd bother with if you have one that's 1-2 years old and have never updated. But if you've updated in the last 6 month or so, I doubt you'll get anything new or improved, anyway, today.

I have an older dezl (2011) updated it a few months ago and lost all weigh stations alerts.
If its new leave it alone -
I had a heck of a time updating mine. Desktop no worky too old. Laptop no worky not sure why. Finally got it on my new laptop.

I have not updated since maybe back in October. But it seems to miss about a third of the weigh stations I run across, maybe more than before, I'm not sure.

Best thing to do is go to the Garmin website and let it do what it wants to do ... either it will let you update via a web page, or maybe it will want to download and install a custom updater software module. Seems different OS's and different devices generate different preferences with Garmin, and this seems to even change over time given the same device and same computer.

Yeah I did the small updates without any problem, just the map updates are 9GB. -
The clone option STexan posted is probably the best option.
If not that the best option is to free up some space on your laptop.
The next option is changing %temp files% location which can be a pain.
I'm assuming a Windows laptop. -
How small is your internal HD? The maps will only download to the drive that has your OP Sys on it, then they will transfer over to your GPS unit. If it's a nice laptop I would upgrade the HD to a larger one as large SSD drives are pretty cheap these days and you can get free software in order to clone your old HD to your new bigger one.
