IIRC it should be like a street address, mile marker, highway junction etc. I get that part. Just wondering what the correct procedure is if you're out in a remote location?

Example, If I were at a jobsite 45 kilometers off the highway, in the bush. How would a guy mark that down in the logbook?

Use the postal town for that area.

I've only ever used city and state when flagging locations. Never caught any grief for it.

Ruthless, Lepton1 and Riprap Thank this.

Location in relation to nearest town, Rd junctions and mile markers are useful.

Should be able to use coordinates if that is easier, but I don't know all that much about truly remote areas, around here, we have 911 addresses for the countryside.

In the US, the regs state nearest town and state. In Canada though, not too sure. Might wanna ask in the Canada subfourm.

I could be sitting in Small Town A, and my eLog will typically say something like "25 miles SE of Not-So-Small Town B". The point is ... the Omnitracs (Qualcomm) system has a limited city/town points database so it should not be a problem just to estimate the approx distance and bearing from the nearest town or city that you're aware of.

So far I've been writing something along the lines of:

"X kilometers off highway ___ at kilometer Y, nearest city name and province"

I've never been asked for logs or been pulled in so I have no idea if what I'm doing is right.

Atleast in the US, Generally speaking... You can stop and ask the scale man. Tell him of your issue and what is his take on the Regs.

Same here, never been an issue (26 years)

Wouldn't rely on this too much, probably like asking 5 IRS people the same question and getting at least 3 different answers. I guess it's not gonna matter much in a year.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.
