A couple years ago the EPA and a DOT cop did a smoke test on my 359 at the Utica, NY cash box on I-90. It failed miserably. Got a fine for $700. Lucky for me the EPA botched the test. Assistant DA saw it my way and dropped the charge. First and only EPA I ever saw in 10+ yrs

I had mechanical cat in out shop with a smoking issue that was caused by a very torn diaphram in the air fuel ratio valve. This allowed oil from the valve to pass through the diaphram & up the signal line into the intake manifold. You could pull the line off with the engine warm & start it. There shouldn't be any oil in that line. Easy to check.
Cummins pt pumps can behave the same way when the diaphram fails except the pt pump pushes fuel back up the line.

The DEC (dept environmental conservation) has a female officer that comes to the town in NY where I grew up. She writes the young fellas with the big time smoking pick-ups for pollution violations.

Might as well tell y'all how they botched the test so you'll know if it happens to you. There is a SAE procedure that says first thing they do is check your engine to make sure the rev limiter works. If they find that is not governed, they must abort the test and charge you with having a non optional governor. My guy went ahead with the smoke test even tho he didn't find my rev limit

How do you delete the rev limit? Any idea on the legal consequences of 'no rev limit'? The law must have something to say about that. No way can they let an outlaw win.

That engine was a mechanical b model. I didn't delete the governor I bought it that way used. There was a whole long discussion about governor's in that thread and I was more confused than when I asked the question lol. With a 3.90 rears, lol pro rubber and a 15 speed, she ain't geared for speed.
