I was told just a while back that Cummins is on something like their 15th liner change on the ISX. Now it is a 2 piece liner. So far it seems to be doing the trick.

Yeah, it's always something nowadays. Like my buddy's C-16. He couldn't keep his brand new one (well, new glider with a 2000 vintage C-16,) together either...Cat changed the liner design about 8 times till finally they got it straightened out so far. By boring out for displacement, they sacrificed liner thickness.
Of course he's one of those guys that can't leave well enough alone either...Bully Dog box, cams, injectors...just building a hotter fire all the time usually leads to troubles eventually.

I have come up with a solution. I assembled a counterbore machine (out of two different machines) to machine the DD15 counterbores for stainless steel shims. (.024" and .058") It cut VERY accurately, (in frame) and I can clean up most of the counterbore erosion, and get the liner height up to .0105", which is the high side of the spec. This should be a big money saving procedure, for the poor independent trucker who would need to buy a $35,000 engine, because his counterbores are bad, and it's out of warranty.
