No no no ... you got a lot to learn.
An owner operator is the guy who owns the truck and drives it. They don't have an authority all the time and an authority isn't a path to riches, it can be one to failure.
You have a lot to learn, first thing is that this industry has so many failures and losers in it that can't figure out how to even get a load without special help, that it makes it harder for the rest of us to make money at times.
There are no experts in this industry because if there were, they would not share secrets on how they made their money and would actually not help anyone who would be their competitor.
Start with driving a truck first.
I don't buy the "I've got a record so I can't find a job" crap for a second.UsualSuspect, QuietStorm and lentz1 Thank this. -
Do you have a CDL?
-
I do not have a CDL.
-
You speak like an investor, am I wrong?
-
Don't I know you, don't you hang out behind the chrome shop beside the truck washQuietStorm Thanks this.

I speak like a fleet owner who has been doing this for a long time.
Many don't get it, it isn't easy and it is business. YOU are asking for things that really don't mean much until you learn the basics. If doesn't matter if you have a million to put into trucking, that will make you $500k when you are done. The knowledge is gained like in any business through doing and listening while doing, but not planning.
A business plan is there to guide you, nothing more.
It doesn't tell me trends, or where the next big load will come from or how to talk to a shipper to get their business.
SO the best advice you can ever get is this - get a CDL, get into a truck and learn how it works.UsualSuspect, rollin coal, dunchues and 3 others Thank this. -
OP pay very close attention because that is the best advice you can get.
dngrous_dime Thanks this. -
Nah, I disagree, the best advice is when he is getting his lunch or dinner in line at the Subway at a pilot and the guy in front of him who hasn't bathed in a month, wearing the same sweat pants he has worn for the past two weeks and has the beat up POS truck parked in the fuel isle blocking everyone else in, turns to him and tells him the true facts of trucking - how he made the big bucks in trucking.
77fib77 and TROOPER to TRUCKER Thank this. -
Sometimes the employment office will pay for your CDL training. Check in on that.
Having a misdemeanor is kind of a crap shoot. Companies do hire people with convictions. Some don't touch drugs, some don't touch assault. Ect. But they are not usually the best companies and pay can be low.
When I was a water hauler in Texas half the guys in the yard were felons. When I hauled crude oil, which paid 70% more a week, no one had a record.
@Chinatown is the expert on companies that hire people. Everyone has a hobby.
Personally become a Flatbedder. It's more work and you may have more options.
