Yes, it is my first emission truck. I started with a 2006 IH 9400 with a ISX. Then a 98 FLD 120 with a N14 that about broke me. I thought about another ISX in a 2010 pete 386 that I really wanted but thought it was to much risk with 20,000 hours and no engine history. A dealer I have bought from before had this and between the new detroit long block and freshly baked DPF with all records I thought that maybe this is what I need. I have a lot to learn about the engine so hopefully I can diagnose and fix some things myself.

I haven't had a chance to scale it yet, but the factory ticket says 16,800 without fuel and all my other junk. If I assume 18,000 I should have a tare weight with trailer of 28k. That will give me some more options.:)

That's a great weight to have. Not many conventionals with big blocks out there south of 30K.

Could even give you room for a fancy APU to save on fuel (if I owned a truck, it would be first on my list of things to consider if doing the OTR thing, idling costs are substantial especially now with fuel costs so high).

Yes I thought about that. It already has a bunk heater and this spring a Honda generator is going behind the passenger fuel tank to power a portable AC unit. I do know that idleing these things is very bad for the emissions systems.

Our shop mechanic tells us that the Paccar MX's we have in the newer trucks should never be "dead idled", or idled at 700-800 rpm. They always want them up around 1000 in non-freezing temps and between 1100-1400 depending on the temps when idling in the cold.

Apparently that counteracts the emissions problems they have (doesn't help when the drivers don't listen and then complain that their truck is giving them emissions problems). I have no idea about Detroit's, but I assume it might be similar.

Yeah, Detroit says minimum of 900 rpm if I have to idle. Which I plan to if it gets below 0 degrees. Just for giggles today I went to see how it would start at 10 degrees. It only cranked maybe 2 revolutions and took right off. I do have a davco fuel filter that is not heated with coolant so that doesn't help.

Really? You mean the N14 broke you? Fuel mileage? Injectors? Do tell.
