When it gets real nasty, I shut off the radio and turn up the CB, I want to know everything I can about what's up ahead.
Sometimes you're better off getting off the big road as all of the hot truck tires make a lane of ice on the road, the smaller two lane highways have less traffic and better traction. Caveat: maybe. -
ga is shutting down at 1pm today.1to 6 " of snow in the 285 down town area, you wont be able to get thru for all of the 4 wheeler s stuck . remember 2014,drivers stuck on the road for 4 days.on 75n/e, 20 e/w, etc.call to see if your p/u or delivery is going to be open.trucker3205 Thanks this.

Southeast, go ahead and park. Whatever hits won't be there long. Well, just long enough to entice the Darwins to get out on the road in force. Go ahead and park...and let everyone whose going to die go ahead and die. In a day, the roads will be clear, and all the remaining Darwins will have stories to tell.
Wisconsin and west, 5-6 truck length following distance and easy on the controls.
" 5-6 truck lengths, Six?"
Yes. You would like to be able to stop with the absolute bare minimum braking. Now if the temps get super cold, like it does up there and Minnesota and the Dakotas and Montana, the snow becomes like sand. Hard and gritty. Good traction. Just stay out of the clusters. Idiots travel in big clusters. Side by side, nose to tail. It makes no sense. In the south, they all run the middle lane with their hazards on for fear of sliding off the road. Only in the south do you see head on collisions on the interstate in bad weather.TequilaSunrise, Longarm, FerrissWheel and 3 others Thank this. -

It is fun to laugh at the southerners in winter weather... I'm one of them.. but I've spent my years elsewhere honing my weather skills so I know how to safely drive in winter conditions.
That said... idiots are everywhere.
While the southerners aren't "used" to driving in it, elsewhere they see it so often that they think they're bullet proof and cause problems of Biblical proportions out of idiocy and over confidence.
These are just facts.
If most folks would just stay home for a while and let the crews do a little scraping it would be much better.
They just can't. -
I don't laugh at the south. I consider myself ##### good with winter, especially icing. The problem is everyone else. The last time we come out for a freaking doctors appt no less... 30 was the max we could do and not give up too much traction, lo and behold a freaking car with Alaskan plates zipped by at 50. HE's a long way from home. Probably something to do with the gas and oil industry.jammer910Z Thanks this.
