Thats using the 10ft tie down rule. Which they do not imply.

I agree with you,.. and would never consider using only 2 straps. Thats just asking for trouble in my opinion.

If you are using chains and securing it the same as a loaded container, no straps are required and the 10 foot rule does not apply. If you are securing it as if it were a crate (with straps), the 10 foot rule does apply.

If you throw one strap you need to use the correct amount, the chains to 4 corners are all you need loaded or empty, some drivers hook chains to the Ft. top an cross down to trailer pocket on other side that does side and ft. to rear movement with 2 chains on ft. loaded you can put extra chains going to rear trailer pockets behind cont. to control forward movement

My trailer (53ft Fontaine Infinity Step Deck) has an arch. The ends of the containers never lay flat on the deck. Thats why I felt the need to have the 2 straps in the middle to help control vertical movement for when the deck twists on uneven ground. IE Going in and out of driveways for say fuel stops etc.

I have no problem adding more straps. I just wanted to know how you guys felt and if anyone knew the specific rules.

I feel better now. I'll add more straps with my chains. I dont want to remove my straps even though I use chains.

    Thanks guys.

That is why the part about the four lower corners supported by the trailer is eliminated from the rules about hauling and securing empty containers. The empty containers don't have enough weight to take the arch out, but lots are hauled on decks.

The way I read it, you need to have the empty container stabilized on dunnage before securement....
