Hello I've just joined but have read several post I've found on google. Any advice I can get is greatly appreciated here's my problem I haveEGR valve code MID 128. SID146 FMI 6. I accept the fact that is the number one EGR but my problem is the FMI 6. I did a little searching and found it to be electrical issues. Now I will explain my problem. I know that on the d12 engine about the wire harness that gets full of oil and basically destroys the wires. Does this harness affiliate with the EGR system if indeed it does should I plan on fixing the harness first to see if the code goes away. Then worry about the EGR I'm not losing any fuel mileage I'm not having any hard starts I'm not seeing any signs of a bad EGRis somebody thinks they might have some logical knowledge that they would like to share on this subject I would be happy to hear itI I like everybody else do not want to spend money on something that's not going to fix the problem.also also to contribute to the Forum if anybody has any questions about the firewall passthrough I just replaced mine today it took me about an hour and a half Volvo told me 3 hours and $600 so I'm willing to contribute and help with any problems that I can help with thank you for your time and hope to be on here regularly hopefully not for fixes but to help and learn whenever possible

Bad harness can cause avalanche hard to diagnose problems. Best way is to get adapter and software so you can monitor exactly what is wrong.
For start read this and check all grounding http://www.fluke.com/fluke/uses/com.../articlecategories/grounding/grounding trucks -
Thanks for getting back with me. I checked out the link. Only thing worse than electrical problem is a tooth ache....... unless you have an ear ache. But this seems to be a head ache. I'll get on the wires tomorrow. Thank you

The egr has an electrical problem in its own i have seen this a million times what i usually suggest to people is that if you are not experiecing any loss of power or high fuel consumption than leave it like it is i do the same with my truck when they start cutting out power and fuel avg goes down thats the time that i replace egr. 99% of time if you get egr fault with volvo is egr itself. let me know if you need anything else. as long as the oil leak on the wires even though a lot of people witll not agree with me on this i've never once seen a wire problem from that lak itself. all volvos leak it's nothing new.
Socal Xpress Thanks this. -
The oil leak is on the injector harness. It has nothing to do with nor is anywhere near the EGR harness. You need a new EGR valve.

Ok great. That's what I wasn't 100 percent about.

Thanks for your replay. I woke up this mor
The problems keep comeing I woke up this morning the tension pulley broke. Lucky for me I carry tools. I figured I'd try to fix it myself and successfully did. It was the fan belt one. I failed to mention earlier that the battery light keeps flickering??? I checked the volts and alternator at the loves( $20 cheaper than ta)all tested well.He checked the ground on the frame and the starter wires. All seemed good. Cleaned up the terminals and the metal on the batteries. Their is oil hitting the starter from the earlier mentioned wire harness. Any ideas. -
Not to hijack this thread.. but if the EGR was bypassed via a "tune"... would a failing EGR still cause issues with performance and mileage?
-
Don't miss those pass thru
joseph1853 Thanks this. -
No if tuning is proper and pipe is blocked
