@Jbeltran805 believe it or not you get over it buddy. I got depressed at first but over time learned to love it. I only drove 9 months a year and took summers off though. Come to Alaska man teach you how to fish!

    You married or single? Kids?

I can see not wanting to be gone that much if you have a family. I am married with two kids at home and it sucks being gone so much. My oldest son was a starter on his middle school football team this year and I got to see one game.

If you are a single why not hit the road? Go out and see things you may never get to see again.

Start looking for local work now. Also, call someone you know and talk on the phone. Don't talk to your person back home about being lonely or homesick, talk about anything you like. If you can get a pet that would probably help if you like cats or dogs. I did OTR with and without my dog, I wouldn't want to do it without a dog. Great company.

Tough it out and you will get something local. I hated being away from my wife and kid when I was OTR. Touched it out and got on with a local company. Local was not for me. At least that job wasn't. Called about a Craigslist ad and now I drive two nights local and one layover trip per week. I make more doing less work.

Once you have a year, doors will really start to open up.

Depressed? That all? You could do worse.

Take advantage of your personal interests. For me it's Military History for better or worse. Any time I had off, and a bobtail with some fuel, off I went to find a historical ground to visit. Aberdeen was one. They have a ordnance museum there on Base. This was long before 9-11 you could come and go at any time.

The last time we did, I took wife to her old stomping grounds in Mesa and Phoenix of all places. We learned more about her family and life there in 4 hours. Eventually we managed to visit every place that was important to her history and mine. Although Baltimore was not always easy to get a bobtail on some of the really small roads (OR should because of current violence among races now living where we once did since roughly 1832.)

Man, it takes about as special a person to be a plumber as it does truck driving, messin with clogged toilets, sink drains, crawling under houses, trailers, freezing cold, sweating to beat the band! I think I'd rather drive a truck! LOL

We had two that we would not call plumbers, they came in messed with the bathroom faucets (something like a one dollar seal that we could put in to stop leak) ended up costing 70 dollars for 10 minutes which leaked after they left two hours later.

Im not here to pick on plumbers, we eventually find some very good ones. Our home at the time required just about all trades to come in and do work. And some of the best ones we hired included workers who were not yet 20 and already well onto becoming a master themselves someday and others who were war vets with a need for peace and quiet we could provide on our lands. It worked out well. Expensive but they did well.

    Ever
Everybody is different, man. The thought of going back local makes me cringe but that may be ideal for you. Try to find an aggregate company near you, they may hire you with your limited experience

That's a fact, that's exactly the reason I got into this line of work. I didn't want to wonder if I should have tried it the rest of my life. Fortunately, (or unfortunately ) turns out it suited me. But even if it didn't and I left I guarantee I would have never forgot it.
