I have a 2007 Volvo with a VED12 engine ok picture this, my expansion tank on cooling system has diesel in it with coolant , my Davco water fuel separator has fuel on top and coolant on the bottom, the secondary filter on the drivers side had a little coolant in the bottom, but there is no coolant in the fuel tanks. The truck runs great and pulls strong, no missing, no white smoke, no obvious leaks. My friend is a mechanic and thinks it's leaking in through the Davco, is there any place beyond the Davco where Fuel and Coolant are close to each other and could mix? Checked the oil and it is good, but truck will loose prime if you park it overnight. thanks for the replies.

Injector cups. Even if the davco is a cold weather model with coolant flowing through it the coolant runs through the body of the filter. Unless the body cracked in that water jacket its impossible and that is even highly unlikely.

You probably do have coolant in your tanks, but you dont know it. The coolant as you know would be on the very bottom so short of pulling the plugs youd be oblivious.

If you dont get the injector cups fixed soon it will start drooling coolant out of your overflow and overheating.

To check if it is the Davco change your coolant, change the fuel filters then disconnect the supply of coolant going into the Davco. Drive the truck for a while, cheap easy way to figure out if it is davco. i have a D12 and have placed valves to switch off coolant supply to the Davco and only open them while the temp is below 10 F, so running without coolant passing through Davco should not be a problem. if it is the Davco i believe there is a part for repair. see link below. if not the Davco probably injector cups.

Thanks for your reply I took your advice and bypassed the Davco and that fixed the problem no more fuel in my over flow bottle. also when I bypassed the Davco, found it to have metal pieces in the bottom of it at the base of the heat exchanger and leaking out of the bottom.

Thanks to every one that replied, but I bypassed the Davco on 01-13-17 and that fixed the problem no more fuel in my over flow bottle. Also when I bypassed the Davco, found it to have metal pieces in the bottom of it at the base of the heat exchanger and leaking out of the bottom. Also I found a blockage holding the check valve open. I replaced the Davco and my Truck is running like a champ again. I've been running hard for past 11 days and no problems, yes I did flush the cooling system and the fuel system, so thanks for the advice.

The lower the micron rating, the faster the fuel goes toward the top. When is the last time the fuel filters were changed on the side of the engine?

Try to use FS19729 50 micron had very good luck with volvos with this fitler this being said also need to check if tank are dirty if this is the case than need to clean tanks instead of always replacing filters.
