Question? We run e-logs and when PM is due I have to get a rental without e-log. I of course run a paper log during that time. But, also know I need to have 7 days of prior logs. Has anyone had problems with having printouts of the prior logs being accepted? I believe to be covered I have to print them out and sign them.

I would run a paper log alongside the elog. So that it's ready (Unsigned) at a moment's notice so when you hop into a rental, sign sign and sign ready on paper.

If you can't print out the previous days of your e-log than you'll have to do paper logs for those days even though they are technically logged by the e-log. Since you won't have the ELD with you you have to have some way to show those days to any officers performing an inspection. Once you get back into your truck with the ELD you'll have to keep the paper logs for those days you weren't in the ELD-equipped vehicle until they fall off the 7 day window. It's all about being able to provide proof of your activities to an inspecting officer at the time of the inspection.

He does ask a good question, even if only a hypothetical. Suppose during the PM they do find something worth placing the truck OOS for? That could lead to this log situation the OP mentioned.

Ask the place where your PM is being done for their fax number or email address and forward your last 7 days from the ELD to them.

They'll gladly do it for you if your company is spending money for their service.

After you get your printed last 7 days, grab your paperlogs and go.

This is why I'm glad I just use paper logs.

I"m pretty sure that once he gets back in to his truck. He would have to fill in his paper logs onto his elogs.

Otherwise, he's got 2 log books with different hours regarding the 70. Unless he gets a 34 in. But i wouldn't want to be messing with an inspection and showing 2 different logs during that 8 day time frame.
