How many points does it take for companies to start to worry?DOT doesn't show any mercy on drivers even if something just happened out of your control.

That's a good question, but landstar doesn't like it. Some sort of remedial training that I have to do. And, it seems DOT doesn't care.

When I worked in the office we had guys on the payroll with CSA scores over 100 and it was no big deal. It was moving violations that were what got safety riled up.

In my day a flat bought a new tire out of your pay. Lord knows I bought tires.... Makes you pretty careful over them things. Times have changed.

Need to start giving 4 wheeler the same run down. Then would the small stuff just get you a park until you get it repaired.

Last week I had a headlight out during pre-trip, wrote it up on DIVR and went to shop to have it replaced. Next day I go thru CT scales @ NY border on route 84 and told to pull around for level 2 inspection. Same headlight is out! Showed DOT DIVR w/ mechanics sig and he still wrote it up on report but no citation. Turns out mechanic didn't install bulb correctly as one of the connectors wasn't hooking onto bulb pin.

Does your company not allow drivers to fix minor stuff like lights.I know some companies don't just curious if your company does the same thing.

I was thinking the same thing we have a couple in the truck just in case. Maintenance gave them to us.

No. Vehicles are leased. Although if I had known about headlight before hand I would have tried to fix it seeing as how it was replaced day before.

It was daytime and didn't know it was out. I did inspection at my stop on the other side of the Hudson River before heading home and the lights were all good but 84 is a very bad road.

I have fixed minor things before like tailight wires hanging down from trailer or new wiper blade I had to buy while on the road but we don't carry any parts at work.

You might be able to beat the ticket by hiring a lawyer, but you will still get the record and the points on your PSP report. DOT doesn't care what the courts decide. If a cop wrote you up, you're guilty as far as DOT is concerned.
