Sure, some companies make it harder then other but it simple means you switch to a different manager/dispatcher.. LOL no it does not mean they are fired and lose their job.. To be honest a driver would be more likely to lose their job before a dispatcher. Office people usually have each others back and your an easy way to resolve the problem. Anyways, sure in most cases you can get a new dispatcher in most companies...Bigarmin88 Thanks this.

LOL my friend was working for ptl request a new dispatcher when he got home. I think he said he wasn't go back out till he got a new dispatcher. They came and got the truck, and wouldn't give him another dispatcher. I was going to apply there and possibly run team. No longer.

Well see thats the wrong way to go about it and as I said they will get rid of you in a heart beat..
A good way to go about it is jut tell your dispatcher (yes you need to man up) that you don't think that you are really a match and would like somebody else. If they are a decent person then they will say okay and let you talk with the boss. if not then they will cry like a baby and not let you talk with them.. At that point you call the boss a little later and let them know that you simply don't think that you are a good match, hey some people just don't click and that life. Well if that don't work then another way is to call safety, tell them that you think that your dispatcher and you don't click and you find yourself thinking about your alls not so good relationship when you should be thinking about your job.. The safety way is the last way to go but is almost a guarantee way to work as a last resort.
You have to be civil about it and you can not get upset when they don't want to.. need to be persistent and be nice and you will win. -
Sure you can ask for a new DM, too bad they'll still be going thru the same planner that got you the crappy loads that pissed you off in the first place.
-
You know I used to fall for that as well but some DM's just have a better relationship with the planners then others.. They say all is supposed to be fare but it totally is not.. When it comes to DM's its the luck of the draw if you get a DM that knows how to keep you moving or not...
I always had decent luck at getting such a DM... 2 times I ended up with a DM that didn't move me and simply ended up meeting personally with them and things changed... 1 time I ended up getting a new DM because the lead said he thought I would work better in another section.....
Again it all comes down to luck if you get that super DM or not that can keep you moving... -
Here's the thing....your DM gets his/her bonus based on your performance. You DM has a screen in front of him/her that they can add comments to. Everybody gets to see your record...day one.
Your DM is part of a "team" of DM's handled by a "team" supervisor. That super also gets a bonus based on your performance.
You may change DM's...but you're still on the same "team". Same overall supervisor...with the same load planners.
The only reason to change DM's (for the majority of companies) is a severe personality conflict. IE Nobody is going to call me on the phone, and start cussing me...I hang up I don't care who you are.
Of course, there is the lazy SOB that just won't do their job. Most of them are gone by the first performance check. -
when i first started, my dm used to make me go NUTS, he and i used to butt heads on a regular basis. then one day i was standing at his cubicle, listening to him argue on the phone with a driver about sending his daily check call (we were s'posta send hours worked from the previous day, etc. every morning) i came to realize that driver was just being a jerk and resolved to try and be more cooperative in the future. i wasn't always able to do that, we would still disagree on occasion, but i found life alot easier if i just tried to get along. and i think that made my personal requests more likely to happen (get me home on....run me through...,etc.)
after he transferred out of dispatch, i missed him.Last edited: Sep 21, 2008

I had a DM once that we would get into it all the time but we respected each other.. I did my job and ran the heck out of that truck... Like I said we always would get into it over stupid things but it never really effected our working relationship.. I made him money and made him look good in return he gave me A LOT of miles and I made money.. IT has to do with respect and if both have it you can get around personal issues with each other and get the job done...
