I have been in and out of trucking several times, with about 10 years driving experience now. I worked for 4 companies - each one a couple of years and then moved to someone with higher pay. My last company was Heartland Express. What I found was, the higher the pay, the shorter the loads, the longer the on-duty not driving hours, and the more bizarre requests from dispatch.
I am over that quest now and am looking for a company that has high miles/load and a 'friendly' (?) dispatch. Does such a company exist? I am kind of joking about "low pay", but it is no longer a priority. Thanks for any tips.
Looking for company with low pay, high miles/load, nonevil dispatch

We hear this all the time "Wow. My company pays 8 CPM more than yours" but what they don't seem to comprehend is that they're running regional and can rarely exceed 2,200 mile weeks.
Yes, there are companies where anything less than 3,000 mile weeks are considered weak and yes they pay less per mile because a lot of their freight is cheaper long-haul freight where there's not as much money as there is in short-haul regional freight. And they also expect you to run what they give you. Also, a lot of this freight works on appointments on both ends. Also, they may have reduced home-time allowances. Some are not cut out for this type of running. As a general rule, there are equal pros and cons across the board with the different types of driving gigs. What sucks for one is a blessing for another.
If you will run all 48, and I80, I90/94 all seasons, run 3-3.5 miles week, and stay away from home 3-4 weeks minimum I can turn you on to a company that starts .38, has add'l 5 cpm achievable bonus, plus a penny anniversary bonus, APU, paid Directv, no-hassle office, new and newer equipment.Last edited: Jan 17, 2017

Where in Florida?
Lessors Inc. has long runs and APU on the trucks.
Danny Herman Trucking doesn't normally hire in Florida, but did offer one driver around Tampa
a job. They found out about a ticket and didn't follow through on the job offer.
This company doesn't run northeast or New York City and mostly drop & hook. Trucks have APU for driver comfort. Dry van. Long runs are what they're set up for all the way to Calexico,CALast edited: Jan 17, 2017

Which company? Lessors or Danny Herman? Dry van and long runs sounds very appealing. I just quit driving teams with the wife after 5 years. And having issues finding the right kind of driver comfort, pay per mile and area/length of haul I'm wanting.Ralph4159 Thanks this.

Freymiller starts at .39 cpm and will run your tail off. You get a 579 or 386 pete with a fairly large sleeper and either a tripac or carrier apu. You buy and they install 1500 watt power inverter. Trucks don't have a fridge but they sell both new and used and it's yours of course if you leave and they payrol deduct them and these are not cheap junk fridges, these are built for trucks.
You will seldom see less than 2800 a week and see 3500 miles fairly often if you keep that door closed. As I have said before all of their dispatchers are current or former drivers and occasionally a drivers spouse. They are a reefer company so you do have detention and only about half of it do they collect anything on and they only pay you detention if they collect on it. Mostly this is a problem going to walmart because they hold you for hours no matter what and refuse detention. They pay all tolls with ipass and pike pass and all lumper fees no questions asked. The trucks come in all colours and are o/o spec'd so plenty of room and storage and fairly comfortable. I no longer work there, I tote a hopper around now so I am not recruiting for them, I was just that impressed.
Oh and they do have cameras but they are not satellite linked other than GPS for speed and location recording. These record an event to an sd card and then automatically download any events to safety's computer via wifi when you go to the yard. They did this so no one would have control of that camera while you are on the road due to privacy concerns. They do record in and out though and there is a remote button within easy reach so you can manually activate it.
I think that's it, if you have any questions hose at me.Just passing by, Chinatown, Ralph4159 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Danny Herman is dry van. They run the warmer climates mostly; Texas border towns and have a couple terminals in Southern,CA. Calexico,CA and some other place. Their length of haul is similar to Holland Enterprises.Ralph4159 and BIGPHILBROWN Thank this.

Sorry, should change my profile - am on the west coast now. Also, just to clarify: "high miles/load" is more important to me than "high miles" in general. Prefer dry van. Thanks for all the tips. I am always amazed at how knowledgable and helpful people are in here. I greatly appreciate!
