So i turn 21 this august and still wanna pursue trucking for a career. the only problem i have is that i dont have the money to pay for a private school and wont be able to qualify through michigan works considering my parents income goes above the recommended amount. the only thing is i turn 21 in august and there is a cdl school near me that has a program that is 3 weeks and you also can get the permit on your own and you will save around $800. the only question is will a company pay for my training to attend a school in july so by then when im done with the 3 week training i have like 2-3 weeks before im 21? i hope im making sense here and if i am would anybody know which company would do something like this? thanks for anybody's help!

After you turn 21 Roehl pays you $500 a week while in school and Millis Transfer only needs $100 up front for school.
-
Doubt any company will do that. Best things you can be doing right now is studying and preparing for cdl school once you're 21.
Scroll to top of this page and click on "CDL Practice Tests" and memorize.
Google : "Free CDL Practice Tests Michigan" and memorize.
You will need an original birth certificate and original social security card that's not laminated.
Get a sleeping bag and pillow to take in the truck while riding with a trainer. After being assigned your own truck you can then decide if you want sheets or not. -
$100 UPFRONT then $400 CASH once you get INTO the class room DAY 1 For MillisTROOPER to TRUCKER Thanks this.

You have to be 21 to obtain a CDL so I'd count on the fact that that includes a CDL permit also. The school can't train you in a truck without a CDL permit.

You can get a CDL as young as 18 yrs. old and many do. The difference is, before reaching the age of 21 you can only drive intrastate. Once 21 yrs. old, can drive interstate.BrownEyedGirI Thanks this.

I wasn't aware of that, do states differ on this?
-
Maybe so, but don't know of any. Some drivers in Michigan went through a cdl school , the were hired by household goods movers as driver helpers or intrastate drivers. There's many drivers under 21 in Texas and a few have posted on here in the past.

Yea... I'm afraid it works that way... No permit - no school, no 21 - no permit...(
-
But still, as always... it depends on the state...
