Yes, the new permits are for 90'. It's not covered in your standard permit though. You buy your weight ($750-$3,500), then $100 for length, another $100 for width, and then $100 for a whopping 4" in height.

So my current 150 k 12 w and 14 tall is going to cost over 3500 now oh heck no
-
If you look at the website and what a gathered on the phone from them today, you can't even get a 14 tall on a annual.
I didn't get much out of talking to them on the phone today. They pretty much just confirmed the info on the website. The lady I spoke to was really nice though. They list 3-10 days for permit approval on the site. I questioned her about this and she told me that unless it's out of the normal parameters, it's pretty much approved as soon as they get the application. She said I could swing by the office and get it immediately, which isn't a problem for me but could be for somebody on the other end of the state or out of state.
The state is pretty much screwed up with all things concerning CMVs. From IRP, to IFTA, to permits. The Dept of Revenue handles IRP and IFTA, Permits are handled by the TDOT, and enforcement is handled by the Dept of Safety. Of all the Dept, TDOT is the easiest to deal with, Dept of Revenue is a nightmare.MJ1657 Thanks this. -
Ok I want to make sure I'm clear here, your talking about the cost of annuals or trip permits? Like Carl said $3500 for what is a fairly "standard" permit is crazy, I get permits like he's talking about weekly especially in the summer. That would get expensive fast.

Annual permits is what I'm referring to, the price tripled Jan 1.
-
Ok I knew it was changing but trip permit las aren't that high?
-
Ok, I'm going to ask a really dumb question...but I'll explain why after.
With the changes TN made, do they allow 46k on ALL tandems?
Example my 9; 16k, 46k, 46k, 46k, 46k.
I know, dumb. The reason I ask is Iowa changed their weight regs too, also to 46k on a tandem. But get this $h!t, only one tandem per group. Yes I said that right.
Only the drives OR the jeep, not both.
Only the trailer OR the booster, not both.
So on a 2+2+2+2 you can go;
16k, 46k, 40k, 46k, 40k
Get this. Permit rejected because too heavy on two consecutive groups. I was ordering 16, 38, 38, 42, 42. The 42 & 42 was too heavy. But I could order 46 & 40?
I'm still waiting for them to explain to me how 84 is heavier than 86. I emailed the permit office this exact question, to date no response.
The jeep and the drives is at least doable with sliding 5th wheels, but the back end of a west coast 9 always balances, so it didn't help me at all.Last edited: Jan 19, 2017
Oxbow, snowman_w900, passingthru69 and 2 others Thank this. -
That is weird, but it's Iowa. Idiots out wandering around lol
snowman_w900, johndeere4020 and Heavy Hammer Thank this. -
Don't quote me on this, but I think they went to 44 on a tandem if you are passing through. But still 40 if you are picking or delivering in the state.

I wish more states would allow 130,000 gross. I would be killing it all over the country!
