Chain the corners and ends as much as you can, then toss straps over the top as many as you can fit. Never too many securement.

I hated hauling boxes on a ravens, they have a bow in the decking and a empty box is not quite enough to weigh down the bow.

If you read the regs, you're supposed to use dunnage until it's stable, THEN secure it.

I was going to mention this if I didn't see anyone else do so. That's the method I preferred, regardless of contents.

Having the tail end of the box overhanging the trailer tends to complicate matters though.

I can't see any advantage to that over my way, as a matter of fact my way is simpler.

    SAR and MJ1657 Thank this.

I've no doubt you're right. Using chains just made me feel better though.

JD did use chains. He just put them at the bottom.

I've always hauled containers with a chain running from one side through both of the bottom lock holes and over to the other side with a single ratchet binder in the middle of the deck. I also through 2 or 4 straps over it depending on length.

SAR, MJ1657, MACK E-6 and 1 other person Thank this.
