The load conformation contains unexpected task.

    The load conformation had the following wording:

    Please ask for and confirm the receipt of
    Item: A...: count 6,789
    Item: B count 2,489
    Itee: .C.... count 1,699
    ...............................................
    Item Z... count 2,993
    -----------------------
    Total: 45,689

    The same conformation asks the driver to confirm the delivery of the same staff.

    Does it mean I have to count all this staff and be liable for any shortages?
    Should I understand it like that?

    If so, I don't think it is feasible to do it in one day and I don't want to. When I first talked to the broker this was not in the discussion. And until after I came home I printed and read the conformation, although never signed it yet, he was gone until Monday. Should I demand he removes the wording, put it "shipper load and count" instead and seal it or else I cancel the load? I just don't want to cancel his load 5 hours before the pick up time and left him empty handed, but I cannot be responsible for counting all those items and in case (high likelihood) of any count discrepancies and be liable. So I will demand the wording changed or I will cancel.
    What would you do?

    i would say they change confirmation to say seal the load,note the bols accordingly or they can have it back. what is this stuff? who counts 45,689 items?

    Sounds like a candy load. If so it's just a matter of counting cases. It's not that hard but I get your point.

    Ya can probably get away with counting cases just got to ask whoever is loading it to give you time and count how many cases per layer and stuff it may be in there as it is required by shipper. I would have wording changes to you counting cases loaded your trailer but broker would be responsible for any shortages due to "hollow pallets" or cases that can't be counted without breaking down the pallet... I got no idea how to word it... As a company driver I just get it in writing that I won't be responsible personally and my company would take financial responsibility. Do the same with your broker I would imagine

    There is not much to worry about. Guy who loads it, counts them with you. Basically you count boxes on the pallet, kinda like 8 vertically and 8 horizontally equals 64 boxes, multiple by 10 pallets, it's 640 and then by how many pieces in each box.
    It's usually small-mid family owned DC centers where you have to do that and those guys will not try to screw you over, if they would be screwing people over, nobody would do business with them.
    They still seal your trailer after being done. I did couple of those, was worried just like you, but everything went smooth.

    I always call a shipper or receiver with any questions I have directly first. I hate showing up to surprises. They will probably tell you what the normal drill is.
