I live in Florida and work for a small company out of California. I'm thinking about quitting because the company has problems I won't get into right now. I don't mind returning the truck to California if I could say for certain the man would pay me for the trip. I would need that paycheck to get a rental car home to Florida. Just don't trust a man because he is having financial problems. When I get paid up to date I'd rather quit and let him pick up the truck in Florida.
Is this abandonment?

Yes that is abandonment. Record everything, never threaten him or his equipment. Tell him your done, what do you want me to do with the truck? If he says bring it back, then bring it back. Record everything.....

Wow, that's quite a dilemma you're in there, driver. I would think if the owner doesn't have a yard in your area, you definitely run the risk of him reporting the truck as abandoned as well as back-charging you for all costs he might incur in recovering the truck.crb, Lanesurfer and Ooops Thank this.

You gotta do what you think is right.
Yes, it's abandonment and no, it's not right.
Without the details that you won't get into we can't know if it's justified but unless he owes you money and has treated you bad it sounds like kicking someone when they're down.Lanesurfer Thanks this. -
Who paid for you to get to the truck ?
Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
Why should they pay him for his way home. He is or will be quitting
Yes he is owed money for other runs
Yes I hope he does get that paid to him, but when you leave a company why should they pay your way home....yb226, Lanesurfer, wore out and 2 others Thank this. -
Company has problems.
All companies have problems, but I'm going to say your straight to the top of the class, and,
1) Your not getting paid, at least when your supposed to.
2) You can't even get full tanks of fuel.
3) You can't get an advance.

Dunno what the gray dog costs for a trip like that. Couple hundred and 3 or 4 of the funnest days you'll ever have.
That is the solution though. Don't abandon the truck or you really F yourself.
Just get a few half pints for that graydog ride, and a puzzle book.
Do the right thing. Doing the right thing often sucks, welcome to life.Toomanybikes, Ke6gwf, sealevel and 6 others Thank this. -
I like the way you think Dave.....Uuhh HuuuhhLepton1 and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.

Tell the guy you're quitting and ask what to do with the truck. If he wants you to bring it back.. bring it back.
As a way back though, are you planning to go drive for someone else after? If so, see if the new company or whatever will pay for you to go to orientation from CA.Ke6gwf, Grumppy, Lanesurfer and 3 others Thank this. -
You could check around and see if somebody needs a truck or bus drove east out of california or maybe be able to catch a ride with one of his trucks headed east or somebody else for that matter. Maybe somebody needs a car drove east you never know.
Lanesurfer Thanks this.
