Really? My old input shaft fit snug in the gear. This new one has a noticeable amount of rotational play between the teeth of the shaft and teeth inside the drive gear.

@BoxCarKidd I see what you were saying about the shaft coming out of the gear. I didn't realize there was an internal snap ring inside the drive gear that can come out.

After you remove the input shaft, the gear can be removed by turning the countershafts.

Haven't really done much lately. Pressed a couple bearing races off. Then steam cleaned and buffed up the main box housing.

Well I've finally got a drive axle! Believe its a 20k Rockwell on Fruitliner air ride. 3.73 ratio and air locker. I wanted a 3.90 but hey, 3.73 ain't bad. Once the wreckers cut the tandem snip in half, I'm loading my half on and taking it home.

I haven't found any manuals that cover the 3406A. Mine goes up to 1693 and 1673. I have seen some that cover 3406B and 3406C. I will keep an eye out for a 3406A shop manual

I just came across this thread for the first time, good job. IMG_0624.JPG IMG_0625.JPG You can find the indicator lights on eBay. about $2.00 each with various colours available. I used them for indicator lights in my '41 IHC

That's pretty cool. I did clean forget you had to memorize what light is for which function, other than to look pretty at night.

They used to make old time lenses back in the day. I seriously doubt I will find those again ever in my world. It's all LED and plastic now.

@NorthernMechanic, are you having any trouble finding parts? Not sure what you might have trouble finding but I'm curious considering it's an '80.
