Ceramic doesn't rust.
-
I thought they only ported and polished exhaust manifolds.
-
I've heard the ceramic coating either burns off or whatever .....
Got no 1st hand experance tho. -
It does, it is only applied at lower temp so when the manifold heats and the metal expands it cracks the coating and lets it flake off, any ceramic coating is a marketing ploy.

Have a look at Cerakote, they tell you the hours it will withstand failure. Take heed, if you decide to do it; find a "certified applicator". There are many people doing this that do not follow the correct process.

Here's a trick I learned in the antique car restoration business that has worked very well for me. Plain old sliver Never-seize, it's messy so wear disposable gloves, but works. Sandblast the manifold clean, then uses a rag to smear it on, not globs, just a thin coat just enough to give it a uniform color. Install the manifold, then use a rag to smooth out what you messed up installing it. When you start the engine is will smoke like hell for 15-20 minutes, but it will stay looking like new bare cast iron for years.
I've done it on on truck manifolds and turbo turbine housings and years later still look new. Zep makes a spray anti-seize called Groovy that work great for this too, just sprat it on and even it out with a rag.
This also works great inside chrome pipes on hotrods and motorcycles. Uses a soft brush or cotton on a stick to get a coat 6-8" down the tubes and they will not turn blue.JimmyWells, Toomanybikes, rollin coal and 8 others Thank this. -
Does Pittsburgh Power even has ceramic coated exhaust. I never heard of them and they don't show any on their website. They port and polish the exhaust manifolds
-
From what i understand pitts power and bully dog all use the full tilt manifolds.
Pitts power does not port and polish manifolds nor do they even make there own manifolds.
The only people that do are PDI . U can get there normal manifold ceramic coated or there extrude honed manifold ceramic coated.
Personally i run a bullydog manifold (fulltilt) on my detroit and my cat. Its ports are way better then the stock manifolds and they come ceramic coated. Never had a issue with coating rusting nor peeling off. The manifold on my cat is 6 years old still looks like the day i put it on other then its a little dull.
My buddy put a pdi center section on his detroit and with in a year was leaking.
Put a bullydog on now and no issues any more.
Personally i wouldnt even buy a tooth brush from PDI.JimmyWells, Oxbow and snowman_w900 Thank this. -
I'm confused; does the ceramic coating go on the inside to improve air flow, or on the outside to retain heat? If on the inside wouldn't it be hard on the exhaust side of the turbo if it flaked off?
