They say squirt a couple drops around the tires and the tailpipe and that'll keep them away.

A mixture of peppermint oil/water w/a few drops of dish soap. Spray it in the wheel wells, keeps them out also.

My daughter mixes peppermint oil, water and a couple other things (I don't know what) to make fly spray for her horse. It's all natural and does a better job than the commercial stuff. It's supposed to be a natural repellent for a lot of critters you don't want around.

How do you know that the failure of @icsheeples block wasn't emissions related? He never elaborated other than to say the truck needed a new block after 600K.

    On emissions,
    The egr for example,
    Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve
It feeds exhaust back into the intake, to reburn it, to make it cleaner....
    Now let's think about that,,,,

Feeding exhaust into the intake, will lessen the oxygen in the intake, thus limiting the ability to burn!!

Next, three most important things an engine needs for long term trouble free operation are, clean fuel clean air and clean oil. When you feed exhaust back into the intake you just said goodbye to clean air for the engine, and shortened the oil life because the blow by, (every engine has some, even when new) now has more soot in it, thus contaminating the oil quicker!! In turn shortening all the bearings life.

I'm not sure how any of this can make an engine burn cleaner, and it certainly will not last as long as it might without it!!

    Some say conspiracy,,
Some say hogwash,, in either direction,,,,
All I know is that most emissions equipment will lessen an engines efficiency and shorten the life of the engine...
And big business sells more parts, components, and fuel!!
Some will argue that it's just my opinion, maybe so but it is based on facts and a formal education.
Now on this particular case I wasn't there to see it so, who knows??
And I did not stay at a Holiday inn express last night!!!

+1. And that is to say nothing of the temps these engines operate at.

Well guys to be fair, in this particular case it did not have anything to do with the emissions. Piston cooling jets are something pre egr engines have. So it was either a part defect or improper installation at the factory. I still don't know if I am sold on the dd13 hence why I am thinking of having a spare rig. If the engine holds together I will keep it, because I wanted a newer nice clean and rattle free rig.

Oxbow, daf105paccar and PeteyFixAll Thank this.
