I've become totally nocturnal, and it's not all good.

I've always been a night person. I worked "bartender hours" 6PM till 2 AM in another job.

I never was bothered before but now it's bad. I've been on break for four days with perhaps another three or four off. I've a list of business matters to do but haven't been able to. I go to bed at a reasonable time at night planning to get up at seven am and get the errands done. I toss and turn all night and finally fall asleep at daybreak. Then by eight am I can not go back to sleep.

I can't attend to business, especially personal interaction looking like I just crawled out of the bunk. The only way I can rest is to stay up all night and sleep during the day. But of course I can't go to my business meetings at three in the morning.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, but please, No wisecracks.

    Lepton1 and CargoWahgo Thank this.

You need to reset your circadian rhythm. You gotta get so tired, you don't know what to do with yourself. Stay up all night. Stay busy. Mow yard, wash car, etc. THEN stay up all day doing stuff that doesn't involve pointy tools or heavy machinery until about 1900. Set your clock for 0600. No hitting snooze. Up at the first beep of the alarm. Give yourself enough time for a shower and a cup o joe. No lingering around, then head out and start getting stuff done. By 1700 you'll be whipped and ready to snooze again. Stay up until 1900 or 2000, then set your clock and get some shut eye.

I ran nights for 10 years. Before that I ran swings and graveyard since I was a teenager. This is the only thing that works for me flopping my schedule.

you should have stayed up day 1 until at least 9 pm preferably midnight and then you would be awake during the day.

I run nights lately. Sometimes I'll be up for 43 hours. I crash hard on those days. It's kinda weird, I'll feel tired driving on days I feel like I got plenty of sleep, and other days I get no sleep and feel fine on the road. I seem to sleep well every other day after a sleep debt has built up.

Try taking a healthy dose of melatonin when you go to bed at the reasonable hour. Always knocks me and the lady on our butts when our rhythm is out of whack. I usually take about 4mg, sometimes 5 while she takes 3mg.
