Danc, thanks for the info on W/S. They're at the top of my list right now.
I sent in an app just before starting school a couple weeks ago. I got a call back from one of the recruiters who told me that he's holding on to my application, and he'll take action on it once I finish school.
Question, I'm told I need to live within 100mi from their nearest terminal. How strict are they about that? I'm 93mi away from the Dalton, GA terminal, so I'm just barely making it.... I hope that doesn't disqualify me.

That shouldn't affect your application at all. We have people that live outside that distance, at every teminal. I'm required to live within 50 miles... It's like 50.3

The biggest factor, it will affect you're ability to go local or regional. So you can expect to be OTR all the time. -
I can't figure why you are posting Watkins and Shepard in the Bad Trucking Company section. What do your questions have to do with them being bad.
I live 115 miles away from my terminal and they hired me. You will have to leave your truck and trailer at your terminal when you take time at home, but living 93 miles away would not disqualify you from being hired. I am in the western region and not OTR. -
LMAO... well it is one of the most active threads, and not neccessarily a "bad" thread. Just the original posters comments for the most part.
Brad, His area will be treated differantly. You have the 11 state regional availible to you. Which can spread you guys out over 11 states
So distance won't be a factor for you. Where it will for him. Especially since Dalton cut back hard on their drivers in the last 6-8 months.
Each terminal and area are differant. You''ll learn this as you start branching out. Most noticable, our Sayreville, NJ terminal. It's like being at a completely differant company. Kinda neat though.
The terminal managers have a lot of freedom. Some of it's good. Some of it's bad. -
No problem.
Sounds great to me danc694u! I really have appreciated all of your posts regarding this company. I am scheduled for the Oct. 1st orientation in Missoula and am looking forward to joining the W/S team. Since I live down here in SoCal I will be based out of the Sante Fe Springs terminal. If you make it out this way again (which I know you are not too thrilled about) give me a shout out if you have the time. -
Sayreville is more like another country

The real bad about this company is that if you forget to put something on the trip envelope, you don't get paid for it.
if you don't justify you extra mile compared to the dispatch (which is almost always shorter) , you will get shorted.
And they will NEVER tell you.
If you forget to collect something that shorts the company, they come after you RFQ. No matter how small the amount.
(my case was a repair part OTR wasn't properly billed to the company account.)
The good?
What Dance has said.
The greatness of fuel bonus also can't be over stated.
I'm a driver with all of 5 months experience right now, in the top tier for fuel mileage, so I'm making 33 3/4 cents per mile!
Hogster Thanks this. -
is this info all still accurate? in another post you said you were at about 50k a year (gross or net?) and home about every weekend? Do you just do local loads? How close are you to the terminal?
I know this was an old post but since I will be starting there next week I was just wondering. thanks you can pm me instead if u want -
