    And yes, percentage is the way to go in flatbed. Especially with tmc. You'll never make 1100 a week there on mileage unless they consistently keep you in the central time zones

    I'll bet ya both you could be driving a dump truck with zero experience, in your own bed every night as soon as the weather breaks.

    A lot of drivers are afraid of the word tanker.
    Have you givin this any thought? Very good money, most regional jobs are out and back home a few days during the week and weekends home

    I applied to 3 local construction outfits, a limestone quarry, and 2 ready mix outfits, I made more at tmc than what those companies start out at. And most of them have serious layoffs come late fall

    I have my tankers, haz mat and doubles and triples endorsement but for some reason i never see job listings for new Grad tankers anywhere at all. I wouldn't mind giving that a try either.

    I thought about dump trucks as well. I just thought that those are seasonal for the most part and the ones like dumpster drivers or trash man only making 16hr or so. I heard that concrete Mix drivers make decent change and might look into either piqua concrete or ernst. Just seems like they would fall off big time in the winter

    Yep, I make good money but started out making squat payed my dues made myself valuable and slept in my own bed at night. By the time you factor quality of life and costs living on the road it'll be a wash. At the end you'll have experience and I bet when layoffs come you could beat on some doors and end up in a hopper hauling grain. Point is there's a will there's a way.

    @johndeere4020 makes a good point.

    A lot of those smaller carriers don't advertise. We don't. If somebody wanted to work for us they have to look for us or ask one of the drivers.

    We have 4 full time road trucks, one regional guy, and a local driver. One of those road trucks has been empty for the past 4-5 months. We've used it as a spare or when the local guy does go out over night some place. We're looking for a driver but are in no rush. If a qualified driver walked in the door they could easily have a job. We have put out a few job listings but it hasn't worked out so far. All of our employees are either family with the owner/founder or have a connection to other employees some how. I got the job because the bosses wife works for my dad.
