I just got a Stryker 955 and was wondering if theres websites that have a list of uses for the channels and bands for the upper and lower side band and fm channels. Partly out od curiousity and partly out of wanting to avoid restricked channels.

Stay on channels 1-40 and you'll be fine...LSB channels most use are 36-39...No one uses FM or Usb...least not in the U.S.

    rabbiporkchop and wolverine11 Thank this.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say as long as you stay out of the 10 meter band, you can talk where ever you want to without having worry about getting in trouble....if you are not running an amp, I'd almost guarantee it.

You don't have to avoid FM...There's not going to be anyone on FM to talk to anyway so problem sorta takes care of itself. lol

Anything from 28.000 MHZ thru 28.700 is the international 10 Meter band. This could possibly land you in dutch with the Feds since it is an active band and assigned to radio amateurs worldwide. Going below 11 Meters can also be a problem, too, since this area is assigned to various military and government stations. Some would argue that this area is not used, but, in fact, it IS! Just not in the way CBers are accustomed to hearing two way radio. Some of it is data transmissions that would sound to the untrained ear like noise, or chirps. Another protocol is called "ALE". Nah, you can't drink it, matey,;) but it is something called "Automatic Link Establishment", kind of a frequency- hopping mode where the radio system "samples" thousands of frequencies per second, or minute. Once it establishes a dominant frequency that seems to be capable of carrying the traffic, it sends a "handshake" signal to the other stations within the "net", and they, too, settle on that particular frequency to conduct business.........until conditions change, the radios "feel" for another frequency and shake hands again without the operator knowing the difference. 25-26 MHZ falls within their HF range, and if conditions warrant, the system will operate there.

ALE really began during WWII when a beautiful actress who also had a brilliant mind presented the idea for using rapidly changing frequencies in submarines to prevent Der Fuhrer's U boats from tracking the allies' subs. Her name was Hedy Lamarr, (nee' "Keisler"). She also scandalized the 1930's world by appearing nude in a movie (Germany).

All this is just info, not meant to tell anyone what to do, but it is best to remain within 11 Meters where yer not likely to be bothered too much!:)

That frequecy hopping is also used by cell phones, yes? Thank you, Hedy Lamarr.
